Nathan Hawthorne

Early Life (2351 – 2371)

Nathan Hawthorne was born in New York City to a single mother who worked as a waitress at a local diner. Due to her being busy Nathan was left alone at a very early age, and took that freedom to explore the city. He did modestly in school, but had a keen mind and an adventurous spirit.

Undirected however this lead him falling in with a bad crowd and by the age of sixteen he was arrested for stealing a shuttle craft. The Judge was lenient however, and instead of jail time Hawthorne was sent to do service work. Still restless however he became interested in Starfleet, recognizing that his lack of direction was going to get him in further trouble unless he straightened up.

He took an extra two years to complete high school, having failed grade 11 twice, but eventually he graduated with respectable grades and an aptitude for getting in and out of fixes.

Starfleet Academy (2372 – 2376)

Nathan entered Starfleet Academy by the skin of his teeth. Feeling he was from a rougher background than other students he worked to hide his working class background and adopted a much more post upper crust accent and affectations. With a name that sounded like a great old sailor’s name, he claimed to other students that his ancestors had been Naval men and quite famous.

Despite this, and his previous educational deficiencies he was a hard worker and industrious. He quickly rose to the upper half of his year and stood out as a good athlete and charismatic. He quickly set his eye on an eventual command, believing that he was capable of a ship of the line. Ambitious he knew which instructors could (and would) make personal recommendations and worked to cultivate their favor. He was also brave placing himself in danger to save other students when a flight simulator broke, and almost killed a number of cadets.

Starfleet Early Years (2377 – 2392)

Upon graduation Ensign Hawthorn was assigned as a security officer to the USS Constantine. There he served able, being wounded in the line of duty while protection a Lieutenant Commander. He was known to take the most dangerous assignments and generally looked to do anything he could to distinguish himself. His valor became known to the Captain who took a particular shine to him promoting him twice while he was aboard.
