Summary
Recently assigned to the USS Tornado, this little weapons specialist has a lot to prove, her size being one of her many challenges to overcome with a new crew. Especially on a ship with a history like that of the Tornado. Only time will tell if she’s up for the task.
History
Born on the Uavai colony of Rienov to the Iensem pack, Seona was but one of 12 in the litter her pack had that cycle. Per Uavai cultural traditions, stemming from the belief that the pack is one family, even if not directly related, that all children in it are raised together, with neither parents nor children knowing who is who’s genetic family. Uavai packs tend to have a societal niche, since very rarely is a pack seen as a group of individuals. This isn’t to say there aren’t such, but the needs of their worlds and growth meant that litters often would become their own packs, tied together by shared interests and desires. For Seona and her litter, this was an interest in space. While each littermate had different aspects they wanted to be a part of, Seona was the one interested in how conflicts were raged and won. The weapons, the methods, the tactics and techniques.
While this would do little to endear her to the pack, most of whom were miners, this also didn’t help endear her to her littermates, who sought the idea of peace and exploration. To see new things and experience new worlds. Eventually the litter would take on it’s own moniker, becoming the Caslma pack. They would finance their way into space, and it would be here that these curious Uavai would encounter the Federation. While there’d been talk of the great interstellar nations, it was always as these things that existed beyond the colony’s ken. The Uavai Coalition had only recently reached the interstellar stage, and this showed in the awe they held for groups like the Federation, the Klingon’s and the Romulans. With a bare handful of colonies to its name, very few Uavai have had the pleasure or luxury of traveling the stars for extended periods, and for the Caslma pack, this was a point of pride, in being a pack to do so.
While the rest of her pack enjoyed the stars and the possibilities they bore, Seona instead looked at the advanced works of the Federation ship that they witnessed, and knew she wanted to be involved in that somehow. Her dives into the Conflux Net in learning all she could about interactions with the Federation led her to distance herself from her pack, and apply for sponsorship to join Starfleet. Told she would have to wait until she was the 18 to do so, by Terran standards, she bided her time, striving to improve herself, including garnering enough funds to enable her to function outside of climates and environments that the Uavai thrived in, in the form of the cybernetic enhancements to do this.
Finally entering Starfleet Academy in 2382, much to her pack’s displeasure, she quickly had to prove that she had no intention of just being an amusing oddity to her fellow classmates, as few believed the Uavai had the means, ability, or capacity to perform as well as the standard humanoid student. But it was quickly found that her head for weapons systems put her leaps and bounds ahead of her classmates, and getting her on the track for it’s operations and use. While her overall grades were not enough to gain more than a graduation to Ensign at the end of her tenure at the Academy, her first cruise had her proving once more that she’d more than earned her right to wear the uniform.
While she rarely got to operate the ship’s weapons for which she trained so hard on for more than the standard tests in both of her previous cruises, her hopes have grown as she was reassigned to the Tornado, which was located in Klingon Territory and thus, quite likely to experience combat. Now a full Lieutenant, she is more than eager to bear her fangs at any who would dismantle her dream of showing her race’s ability.
