History
Early Life
Born in the waning years of the Cardassian Occupation Dil’s early life was surrounded by violence and racial tensions as the Bajoran people continued to fight for their freedom against their oppressors. The only child of a pair of young freedom fighters Dil came into this world as an expression of love in the face of adversary, unfortunately like many children born during the resistance Dil’s father died only a few years after the birth of the boy. The loss of this young man struck Dil’s mother hard and she retreated from the freedom fighters shortly before their work came to fruition and the Cardassian’s retreated from Bajoran space. Though outwardly she celebrated her heart ached for the man who would never see the fruition of their lifelong dream.
Determined that her son would not grow up in a world where people believed themselves better than others, she educated Dil continuously in the ways of other races and their own, teaching the young boy that there is room in the galaxy for everyone.
Joining Stafleet
Dil joined Starfleet wide-eyed with excitement following a Xenoanthropology science track, his mother had always fostered the young boy’s obsession with alien cultures and saw he had a particular knack for the intricacies of learning alien languages. By his teenage years Dil had learned Cardassian, Klingonese & was well into his studies of Tamarian poetry when they left Bajor as part of the post war swell of Bajorans entering the galactic stage as the planet joined the Federation. Moving to a trading post near the DMZ he found his voracious appetite for knowledge overwhelmed by the variety of people he met as he sat studying in the corner of the restaurant his mother worked in, from Ferengi traders to Bolian freight captains each day was a new aspect to study. His excitement on grew when a scheduled service visit meant Dil was exposed to the multi-cultural world of a Starfleet ship, hundreds of cultures and voices all co-existing simultaneously, operating seamlessly for the good of the Federation. That day, Dil decided he would be one of those voices. The day of his 18 birthday he applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted.
