Logan Carter

Early Life

Logan was born on the SS Mayhew, a small freighter operated by his father. Life aboard the starship quickly became boring for the young child. He mainly passed the time by watching the helmsman pilot the ship. It was always an exciting time when they let him “pilot” the ship. As he grew into his teens, so too did his piloting skills. It wasn’t long before he would regularly take the helm during transports. During an unloading stop at a starbase, Logan got his first look at a starfighter. He chatted up with the fighter pilot and fell in love with the adrenaline rush that came with the intense flying.

Starfleet Academy

As soon as he was able, Logan joined Starfleet with the intent of being a fighter pilot. He was assigned to Cadet Squadron Twenty-Two. Due to his previous piloting experience, he excelled at the lessons taught. Oftentimes he would goof off and play pranks on his fellow cadets, much to their displeasure. The ease at which Logan passed his lessons drew the ire of his classmates, but none more than the squad leader Cadet Senior Grade Miguel Chavez.

Chavez was always extra hard with Logan, much to the latter man’s confusion. Miguel wouldn’t tolerate Logan’s pranks, regarded them as childish, and would often punish Logan with extra exercises. The two of them would often come to near blows, only being stopped by the senior instructors. Despite their tense rivalry, both men graduated from Starfleet Academy and went their separate ways.

USS Novia

Upon graduation from Starfleet Academy, Logan was assigned to the USS Novia’s Coyote Squadron. It was a small, tight-knit starfighter squadron. The closeness of the group reminded him of home. It didn’t take Logan long to gain a reputation for arrogance. This arrogance landed him in trouble with his squad leader and the brig more than once.

This arrogance came to a head on one mission where the squad was tasked with exploring a derelict vessel. The debris field was too dense for the Novia to safely pass through. As the squad was reporting to the Novia, raiders emerged from the adrift vessel. The squad was easily outnumbered 3:1. A retreat was called, which Logan ignored and continued pursuit of his bogey. By the time he’d realized the consequences of his hubris, half his squadron was dead. 

Logan was brought before an inquiry board and he was found at fault for the death of his squad mates. He was given the choice of choosing a bridge position or resigning from his Starfleet commission. Logan chose the latter. He felt if he couldn’t fly a starfighter, he wasn’t wanted in Starfleet.

Cantabras

Logan was once again called back into Starfleet’s service to helm USS Cantabras. Although it wasn’t a starfighter, he is itching to get his hands on the controls. And Starfleet is thankful to have a pilot of his exceptional skill back in service.
