Summary
Daniran Kosst was the commanding officer of the USS Nighthawk. Young and capable, she had had high expectations placed on her throughout her career, and was always determined to meet them – culminating with her own command after barely over a decade of service. This path through the ranks kept her on the bridge, and Kosst was particularly talented at starship management and logistics, as well as having a natural touch as a diplomat. Despite her aptitude in leadership and her significant personal charisma, she could be a little socially awkward outside of professional circumstances, away from the protocol and expectations of Starfleet service – an uncertainty that belied the insecurity at the heart of this high-flying officer.
Kosst was killed in the line of duty in the Battle of Izar during the Lost Fleet Crisis. The USS Nighthawk took heavy fire and was disabled during the battle, but Kosst managed to restore power to bridge systems to complete Nighthawk’s mission of locating key tactical locations in the system. She then ordered the ship be evacuated, but stayed aboard to help her crew. She died when a section of bulkhead collapsed, having already recovered several injured crewmembers from the compromised corridor and had gone back for more. Kosst was among those posthumously commended for her role in the Battle of Izar, awarded the Christopher Pike Medal of Valor and promoted to Captain.
