Presley Atega

Early Life (2375-2393)

She was born in Quezon City, Philippines, to her parents.  When she was five years old in 2380, they died in an explosion at a local mall which was later tied to rebels.  She was raised by her grandmother, who was a linguistics professor at the local college. Presley begins to study with her grandmother at the age of ten and becomes interested in linguistics and communication as she grows older.  In high school, she studies further and takes concurrent enrollment classes at the local college with the aid of her grandmother.  She graduates with an Associate in Communication and Linguistics.  She immediately applies to Starfleet Academy and is accepted.

Starfleet Academy (2393-2397)

Presley keeps to herself but applies her focus to communications and linguistics with fervor.  She is named “Communicators To Watch” in her Sophomore year and beats out her fellow students in a linguistic competition, earning 1st place and a commendation from the professors.  In her junior year, she continues her work apace and makes some acquaintances but never friends.  She is not interested in relationships and rebuffs the ribbing she receives in her Senior year for being such a bookworm.  Her hard work pays off, and she is Valedictorian of her graduating class at Starfleet Academy.  In her speech, she exhorts them to “remember the words of the past so they may aid us in our search into the stars.”  She is assigned to the USS Polson as a communications officer with the rank of Ensign.

USS Polson (2397-2400)

Presley serves with distinction on the Olympic class USS Polson.  Her ability to detect linguistical terms and meanings earns her recognition among the communications team and the crew.  Her legend grows as she assists in several tense negotiations when the Polson finds itself in situations where a biological ear is needed.  Her fascination with communications technology nets the Polson a rare rescue opportunity with a wayward Klingon transport that had gotten lost in a nebula.  She does not attempt to make friends onboard and, despite her CO’s best attempts, is not a team player.  In early 2399 she meets with her CO to discuss her future.  In his words in her file, he states, “I made it clear with Ensign Atega that if she wishes to use her knowledge, expand her practice, and go farther into the great mysteries of our time…she will need to find a way to work with others and not find her comfort in her quarters as much as she currently does.”  Presley spends the next year working with the ship’s counselor and the crew in an effort to bolster her social skills and community connections.  She succeeds halfway and her application for Chief Communications officer is picked up by Commander Ambrose Harris of the USS Edinburgh.

USS Mackenzie (10.14.2400 -03.01.2401)

She was assigned as Chief Communications Officer of the USS Mackenzie on 10.14.2400.

USS Olympic (03.01.2401 to 7.15.2401)

Atega was transferred to the USS Olympic.

In a surprise reassignment, Dread and her crew are assigned to the Constitution III USS Douglas.  Atega is reassigned as Chief Communications Officer
