Sabia Kal

Ensign Sabia Kal is a recent graduate of Starfleet Academy. Having focused her study in tactical, she has been assigned to Starbase Bravo as a Security Officer.

Early Life

Sabia Kal was born to Sudril and Sediam Rag on Trill. While her mother was a teacher, her father was a Starfleet Officer. Growing up, Sabia would hear countless stories about the Dominion War from her father. The intense interstellar battles, the harsh hand to hand combat (he was missing three fingers), and the comradre that came from it. Sediam Rag loved Starfleet and climbed to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, serving as Chief Security/Tactical Officer on USS Okinawa. Sabia’s father sparked the flame of Starfleet in Sabia; she always knew she’d be in Starfleet. It just took convincing her mother.

Sudril tried everything a mother could do to convince her daughter not to join Starfleet. Unlike Sediam, she’d been on Trill throughout the Dominion War, working as an primary school teacher. The inconsistent communication and constant worry had nearly killed her; having both her husband and only daughter join Starfleet might break her. Sudril had arranged for Sadia to volunteer at her school. She hoped it’d inspire her to become a teacher, which was a partial success. Sadia loved children but couldn’t see herself at the front of the classroom. At eighteen, she followed in her father’s footsteps and joined the Academy.

Starfleet Academy

Sadia arrived at Starfleet Academy on a convoy with 50 other trill cadets. To her surprise, only two other cadets had decided to go down the tactical path, the remainder were engineers and scientists. She nevertheless created a lasting friendship (though interrupted by a brief failed romance) with Nurul Bizuhl. They became late night study partners throughout the four years.

Aside from Tactical training, Sadia spent time in body building and piloting. As an aspiring tactical officer, she held herself to high expectations for physical fitness. She’d seen newscasts of security officers chasing after assailants only to see them get away because they were out of shape. That wouldn’t be her. Sadia started her day at 5am, spent an hour in the gym before heading to her classes. After classes got out, it was study time and then practice with the Academy Flight team. Once she’d earned her flight credentials, she’d also spend her weekends volunteering on shuttle missions.

Starbase Bravo

Upon graduating from Starfleet Academy, Ensign Sadia Kal was assigned to Starbase Bravo as a Security Officer. She hadn’t expected to be assigned to a Starbase for her first assignment – she’d read the infamous stories of Kirk, Picard, and Janeway and hoped to be on a starship. After sharing the news with her parents, her mother let out a breathe of relief, while her father talked about how amazing it’d be to work on a Starbase. Sadia did a bit of her own reading on Starbase’s and soon became content with her new assignment.

Her first day is just around the corner, and Ensign Sadia Kal is excited to work her way up the ranks.
