Physical Description

A petite woman of five foot six inches and 125 pounds, Noli probably weighs less than she should and her slight frame makes her look quite fragile – she does have broad shoulders but a tiny waist line. She is an attractive, and often unattainable, woman. Her emotion filled eyes are well accompanied by full, pale red lips and auburn, layered hair making her almost identical to her mother at a similar age. Physically well kept and slim, the young officer frequents the gym in order to remain physically fit.

Father: Noli Pol – Died at Gallitep Forced Labour Camp, 2369

Mother: Noli Arku – Died at Gallitep Forced Labour Camp, 2369

Personality & Traits

Considered to be an up and coming officer before the outbreak of the Dominion War, Noli is the epitome of the phrase “appearances can be deceptive”. Her slender frame and emotional eyes may make her look petite and even fragile but she is far from that. Strong willed with a feisty temper, this woman takes after her father and is full of emotion and is deceptively strong. She is intent on carving out her legacy as a survivor of the war and is desperate to see her people through these dark times. As her confidence has grown she has become more relaxed and vocal in her opinions now that she wears the uniform of Starfleet, but she is having to learn to temper her outbursts in recent times. She almost always bears a smile and a warm, gleeful aura, helping to comfort and relax those around her, often luring them into a false sense of calm. Her charisma ensures that her reputation typically precedes her wherever she goes, though she has been known to let this affect her personal relationships and has probably resulted in her remaining single to date.

Tenacious, determined and resolute, Noli has never shied away from a challenge and will often sacrifice her own well-being in order to achieve her goals. She is very methodical in her work and prefers time to think things through before acting, but isn’t afraid to act when time is of the essence. Behind her strong exterior she is the kindest, most caring person to her friends and fiercely loyal to her colleagues, but she is definitely not to be trifled with.

Strengths & Weaknesses

With a strong understanding of linguistics and the history of her people, Noli’s skill set perfectly enables her to work as an advisor to her commanding officers if so required. On the surface, she is cool, calm and collected and that helps with her integration into Starfleet, but she is having to adjust to a new way of working under the new, more militaristic nature of Starfleet in the late 24th century.

Noli had never shied away from the fact that she wanted to be a leader for her people, but now she must do it as one of the sole survivors and endeavours to one day return to her homeworld and liberate it from the Dominion.

Hobbies & Interests

Noli used to enjoy nothing more than a visit to the Jalanda Forum to take in music concerts, poetry or dramatic readings from Bajor’s newest artists. She also enjoyed frequenting Deep Space Nine where she liked to watch ships pass through the Celestial Temple. Now, she does her best to expose people to the wonders of her planet and, hopefully, improve the planet’s reputation. She reads, she drinks, she gambles but ultimately, she worships the Prophets.

Personal History

The daughter of Arku and Pol, Auru was born on Bajor in 2345 during the Cardassian Occupation of her homeworld. She grew up in the Kendra Valley Province where her family were farmers and did their best to survive without drawing too much attention to themselves. At the time, there were rumours that the Noli family were collaborating in order to survive, but the true reason for their survival would be revealed years later.

A simple life didn’t stop Auru from dreaming big and when she was just fifteen, she shocked her parents by revealing that she wanted to be a leader of her people, someone who would guide her people from years down on their knees and restore them to the proud people they had been; no mean feat for a young girl living under the oppression of a foreign power. Unbeknown to her parents, Auru had made friends with a local family, the Tal family and their youngest boy, Garen. Garen was nearly eighteen and a member of the Shakaar Resistance cell. When her parents found out, they were furious but she was determined to help the Resistance with or without their help. It was then that her parents revealed that the Cardassians had left them alone because they gave up vast amounts of their crops and livestock to their Cardassian overseers, but at the same time, they had been sneaking supplies to the Resistance. By providing for the Cardassians, the Noli family had been allowed to retain their land, thus allowing them to continue to supply the Resistance.

For a short while, Auru saw her parents as hypocrites, but she realised that they had made a choice to help the Resistance and wanted a better future for their daughter; she, however, was just as determined as them. Whilst her friend Garen became an active participant in resistance movements, bombings and even assassinations of Cardassian occupiers, Auru would provide medical care, cook and look after the members of the Cell. She had become a beautiful, resourceful young woman and exceptionally bright. By the time she was 20 (in 2365) Auru had helped plan several Resistance operations but always refused to take part. Directly killing people, even Cardassians, was not her way – but the same could not be said for her friend. Tal had switched allegiances from the Shakaar and had joined the Kohn-Ma Terrorist Group, opposed to all outside influence on Bajor. Their actions were extreme, but helped take some of the focus off of the Shakaar for a while.

When she was 22, both her parents were discovered transporting supplies to the Resistance and were sent to Gallitep, a forced labour camp run by a tyrant named Gul Darhe’el. It was there that her parents would die and she would never again see them alive.

In mid-2369 the Cardassians finally withdrew from Bajor after over fifty years of occupation and Auru hoped she could finally be reunited with her family. She was to be sorely disappointed. Shortly after the withdrawal, Gul Darhe’el ordered the killing of all Bajorans in Gallitep, including her parents. When the camp was eventually liberated, the air was filled with the scent of devastation, destruction and death. Her parents’ bodies were found among a group of twenty prisoners who had all been shot in a mass killing. But, in a true act of defiance in the face of utter hatred, the pair had died, holding hands and very much in love. Whilst most reacted to the atrocities at Gallitep with fury, Auru found herself able to take solace in the fact that her parents had died together, unlike so many others who had been separated from their loved ones. For her, the war was over.

In the aftermath of the withdrawal, there was so much to do to help restore Bajor to its former glory. Whilst many still wanted to fight, Auru was part of a group that was recruited into the Bajoran Militia as a peacekeeper. A firm believer in the Prophets even after all of the tragedy that had befallen her people, the youngsters faith was severely tested later that year when the Bajoran religious leader, Kai Opaka, was left on a world in the Gamma Quadrant at a time when their people were crying out for leadership. It wasn’t long before the planet was almost gripped by civil war when an extremist group, The Circle, began to try and assert its dominance and undo all of the work done between the Bajoran people and their Federation neighbours, culminating in Federation withdrawal from Deep Space 9 for a short time, until sanity was restored (and evidence of Cardassian involvement shared with the authorities).

At the start of 2371, Noli was transferred to Deep Space 9 as one of Constable Odo’s deputies, where she served with great distinction as a member of his team who would often spend time patrolling the Promenade and be the friendly, welcoming face of the station’s security detachment. She would help repel the Klingon’s during their attack on the station in 2372 at the start of the short Federation-Klingon conflict. Working on the station alongside her Starfleet colleagues had really given her a taste of what could be, and the young Militia member was a strong campaigner for Bajor’s entry into the Federation. Efforts for Bajor’s entry into the Federation would ultimately be put on hold in 2373 upon the outbreak of war with the Dominion. The first year of conflict was bloody, with the Federation very much on the losing end until they were able to retake Deep Space 9 from the Dominion in early 2374. But, even then, the war entered a stalemate of sorts. Both sides would achieve victories until late 2374 when Captain Sisko and Elim Garak attempted to bring the Romulans over to the side of the United Federation of Planets. Following the conclusion of the war, the process for Bajor’s admittance into the Federation was accelerated in the hopes of bringing a much needed morale boost to the Federation troops, and also give them some much needed allies. Bajoran membership of the Federation was confirmed in 2375, with the Militia, and Noli Auru being folded into Starfleet despite their lack of Starfleet training. Noli would go on to be assigned to the USS Polaris as a member of its Security team, the aging Excelsior-class ship in need of significant reinforcements after a decisive loss against the Romulans at Bolarus.Service RecordOver the course of the next decade, Noli would serve the Polaris with distinction, earning her promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade in the process. She transferred to the USS Magellan as Assistant Tactical and Security Officer under Captain Anjad Terax in early 2385, but disaster soon struck. On First Contact Day, a skeleton crew remained to work at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards to oversee construction of the rescue armada designed to assist the Romulans prior to the destruction of the Hobus star. But, during the Federation-wide holiday celebrations, multiple A500s at Utopia Planitia suddenly went rogue. They lowered the deflector shields protecting the shipyards and the planet itself, and hacked the Martian defense net. Numerous synth ships began targeting the rescue armada, the Utopia Planitia Shipyards, the Mars Orbital Facility, and other Martian facilities. The satellite network surrounding Mars was turned against the surface. The synths then began bombarding the surface, igniting flammable vapors in the stratosphere and causing massive damage to the planet’s infrastructure.

Devastation on this level caused many across the Federation to question whether Starfleet could keep their homeworlds safe. Starfleet began to take on a much more inwardly focused, militaristic mindset. Like many, Noli had grew disgruntled with the direction that Starfleet and the Federation was heading in, and opted to take some of her accumulated shore leave. She spent close to a year on her homeworld before Starfleet came calling for her once again. During her time on Bajor, the young woman had been watching as Starfleet and the Federation threatened to devolve into a xenophobic power, scared and anxious about outsiders. Worlds across the outer rim threatened to cede from the Federation and it was clear to Noli that the Starfleet of old didn’t exist. Rather than return to the fold, she resigned her commission as a Starfleet officer, but not before submitting a strongly worded letter to her superiors regarding the state of the Federation and the role they should have been playing in affairs following the Romulan supernova. The letter was not well received by her superiors.

During her time on Bajor, Noli joined a civilian construction effort focused on creating defence arrays in orbit of the planet, eventually rising to be a lead player in the project. But she longed for the days of old, when life seemed simpler. After some grovelling, and a visit to Earth, Noli had her commission reactivated in 2393. During the next five years, Noli would again prove herself to be a competent officer, serving the Sovereign-class USS Nogura as Assistant Tactical Operations Officer until her promotion to Lieutenant in 2398.

Her next assignment, albeit short, was an interesting one as she joined the final construction stages of an Inquiry-class vessel during trial runs as Chief Tactical Officer. Responsible for field testing all of the defensive and offensive systems on the vessel, Noli also oversaw the ships journey to Deep Space Nine in early 2399, where she would eventually transfer to a more permanent posting as Chief Tactical and Security Officer of the Luna-class USS Europa.
