Mike Thomas

Mike grew up in rural Wyoming, the son of ranchers. His home life was nothing to be envied, with a angry drunk for a father and a mother who had checked out years ago. He spent as much time as he could away from home growing up, crashing on friends’ couches or just finding a comfortable park bench. He struggled in school because of this, but was still able to pass the Starfleet Entrance exam and left home with very little fanfare to get away from what he’d had to grow up in.

Mike did well in the academy, not top of his class, but top 10% for sure. He actually went in for Helms but showed an aptitude for Engineering and when one of his favorite instructors pushed him, he changed focus to Engineering and Shipworks. He completed his cadet cruise aboard the USS Montreal and finished his senior cruise with a commendation from the CO for his knowledge and proficiency. He was assigned to the same ship after graduation as an Engineer.

The CO of the Ship, one Captain Anderson Carver, took Mike under his wing and was his first real confidant and friend. Mike was finally able to get some of the painful memories of his childhood off of his chest and be honest with someone for the first time. Carver did a lot to show Mike how to be a man and an officer, and made an indelible impact on his life and his career. During his three year career aboard the USS Montreal, Mike made his way from Engineer to Anti Matter Specialist to Assistant Chief.

He was devastated when Carver was made a Rear Admiral and returned to Starfleet Command when the Montreal was decommissioned but, excited with the opportunity that Carver left him: Transfer orders to the USS Reliant as their Chief Engineer.
