Early life:

Lauraine is the daughter of Ciara and Scott Penmark; both of them are former service members of the Fleet. Lauraine is the second oldest out of the children, her sister Makenzie is seven years older than her. Born in Blaine Washington, in 2371 on the Semiahmoo Bay when her family was out on their boat. Her first blurry images were of her sister Makenzie and her father Scott. 

When she was five Lauraine noticed that her sister spent less and less time with her, and more time with her friends. She tried to gain her sister’s attention only to be pushed away. On one occasion, Makenzie smacked her sister and told her to go home and leave her alone. This caused the two of them to drift further apart. During this time Lauraine and her father became closer and he started to train her. 

When she turned six, Scott, took Lauraine Lake Minnewanka. There she began her survival training. What she did not know at the time was that her father had down his own survival training in the exact same place. He showed her how to live off the earth, what plants to eat and which ones to avoid. Every year Lauraine and her father would travel the world when he was home and every year her knowledge would become that much more.

 

When Lauraine turned eleven she watched as her older sister departed from high school and further from her life, as she boarded a shuttlecraft that was headed for San Fransisco and Starfleet Academy. Lauraine was proud of her sister, but at the same time, she resented her sister for pushing her out of her life.

During the middle of her seventh-grade year, Lauraine was pulled from school and told by her father that they had to move from Washington to California as her mother had accepted the Starfleet Academy Commandant position there. She said her goodbyes to all her friends and moved to California.

While in California she fell in with the wrong crowd since her mother was too busy with the cadets and staff at the Academy and her father had been sent off to some other world. By the time she graduated High school, she had seen the inside of several jail cells and had been told that if she did not clean up her act that she would next time be sent to a penal colony.

Just before her 19th birthday, she was attacked by the same people that she had hung out with. They had thought that she had turned on them. What they didn’t realize was just how brutal she was. All of the training that she had received from her father, from the hand-to-hand close-quarters combat, to how to disable an attacker was brought forth. When she was done half of her attackers had been disabled in some form or fashion while the others had fled away. All in all, she came out of the attack with a busted lip and nose, and a shiner over her left eye. 

Two days later she was approached by a man in a grey uniform, that had witnessed the attack. He told her that she had two options. Join Starfleet, or be sent to a penal colony. She had chosen to join Starfleet. 

For four years she learned from her teaches and classmates. Some of it was great while most of the time she felt as if she was constantly being tormented by her past. Just before her graduation from the Academy she was once again attacked this time however she was unable to fend off her attacker and ended up being assaulted. They never found out who had attacked her and no matter how much she tried to give them information on what her attacker looked like she couldn’t.

She was later cleared for active duty aboard the USS Manticore as a Security Officer. During her time aboard the Manticore, she had trouble following orders from her superior officers and had been given three different reprimands; for being subordinate. She was ordered by her Commanding Officer to seek Counseling before she lost her commission as an officer.
