Petty Officer 1st Class Steve Hwang
Steve Hwang is an expert in small craft and shuttle systems, as well as small craft traffic control and shipboard shuttlebay management. He’s known for his upbeat, playful personality and love of music in addition to his ability to work late into the night on any number of official or unofficial projects. He is well-known for his insistence on hand-painting small craft liveries, and skill he picked up in his youth.
Born on 12 June 2357 to Human parents Paul and Nasrin Hwang on Vega Colony, where both parents worked in small craft design and maintenance. Nasrin was also popular in the colony as a sign painter, a common local craft on the colony. Steve picked up these skills at an early age, nurturing a love of visual art and, eventually, music.
In 2374, he completed his secondary education and enrolled in the Vega School of Fine Arts, initially intending to train as a concert pianist of both Earth and Trill varieties. He was dissatisfied with the art school environment, however, and left in 2377. That year, he took after his parents and enrolled in the training program for potential transportation officers for the Federation Transportation Authority of the Vega Colony. The following year, he completed the course with honors and began his career in local transportation.
In 2385, he was elected to the FTAVC board of governors. At the end of his term in 2387, he was made stationmaster of the Vega Transport Hub.
He married fellow Vega colonist Sabina Rollins in 2388. The next year, with Sabina’s encouragement, he trained to enter Starfleet as an able crewman. In 2389, he was enlisted to the USS Kiowa as a member of the shuttlebay crew. In 2393, he took an assignment on the traffic control team at Starbase One, Sol System. He stayed at Earth until 2395, when he joined the USS Havana.
