Asa Thorpe

Asa was born in raised in the Gulf Coast Region of Texas on Earth. She grew up on a ranch ran by her grandparents at the time. Her mother lived and worked on the ranch and was Asa’s primary caregiver. Her father was a scientist and the black sheep of the family. Adopted by his own and not particularly accepted by his wife’s he was a commissioned officer in Starfleet and his service off of Earth eventually led to divorce.

Asa’s family on Earth was not supportive of the deeply rooted scientific mind enamored with learning. They viewed it as a threat to the family continuing to run the ranch which thrived as a local retreat and now very unique business in the time. Needless to say at every turn her grandparents and by proxy her mother made sure to discourage her interests in leaving home.

Thankfully, even by remote, Asa kept up a great relationship with her father. He encouraged her mind and interests and helped her realize how backward the thinking of her family was.

During her last high school years she was able to relocate, with a custody fight, to San Francisco with her father. He had accepted assignment there as a professor, eventually department head, and after retirement as a permanent civilian member of the faculty with his own laboratory.

Asa fell in love with Starfleet, Science, and wanted nothing more than to follow in her father’s footsteps. So she gained acceptance to the Academy, graduated with high educational marks the service part of her academy time a bit slack. She was then accepted to and began Starfleet Medical School.

Upon graduation of medical school she was sent off to Starfleet Hospital where she conducted a dual residency in Family Medicine and Infectious Disease. Her ID Residency included time in the  laboratory as well. Upon gaining her board certification she went to a research team at Starfleet Medical.

With her research program closing out with a successful experiment period she received an assignment to the USS Magellan as Chief Medical Officer. Assured that a shipboard assignment would do most for her career at present while a capable scientist and a wealth of medical knowledge it would be the first time since her residency she would treat a physical patient and would be her first time without supervision from an attending physician.
