Mark Reade

Reade was born on March 23, 2370, and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of North America.  His parents were both Starfleet Officers when he was born but died when he was only six years old when their ship came under fire during a skirmish with a Klingon vessel.  After the passing of his parents, Reade was raised by his grandmother on their family farm.  It was during this time that Reade developed a close relationship with animals, a love for the outdoors, and his grandmother’s empathy for others.  Reade, being inspired at a young age by his parent’s heroism, decided to join Starfleet.  His love for people and problem solving led him to believe he wanted to be a counselor, but one of his professors encouraged him in the field of security after seeing his spirit of wanting to help people and his tactical skills.

After being encouraged to join the security training programs, Reade began to flourish in his abilities to deescalate crisis situations and revealed his natural affinity for negotiations.  He spent most of his time outside of study and class time working on combat readiness, weapons training, and verbal conflict de-escalation.  One particular area of interest to Reade was body language study, learning to read past what a person is saying to you with their words and looking more deeply at what they are saying to you with their body language.  This skill which he has honed has helped him during his career as a security officer to be two or three steps ahead of the assailants that he has to manage.

Reade’s first posting outside of the academy was as an assistant security officer aboard the USS Challenger.  During his time aboard the Challenger, Reade put his training and learning during the academy into the real-life field of the Security department aboard a Federation Starship.  He was put face to face with life or death situations that challenged him to his limits.  It was during these events that Reade established himself as a leader in his field and as a trusted member of the Challenger’s crew.  Reade quickly moved up the ranks to Lieutenant and was then offered the position of Deputy Chief of Security aboard Starbase 38.  After careful thought and consideration, Reade accepted this new role.
