Clay Matthews was born in New York City, Earth in 2375, to former Starfleet Captain William Matthews and Doctor Mera Matthews. He attended school in upper-class NYC, growing up adhering to the strict rules of his parents, attending the New York Military Academy in high school. He left at 18 and shortly afterward enlisted in Starfleet, earning his commission as an officer when he was 22. He received his first posting immediately after graduating, serving a 2-year mission aboard the USS Pheidippides. Aboard her, Matthews served as a Flight Control Officer and Intelligence Specialist. After his first posting, he was promoted to Lieutenant JG by his CO.
He has served on the bridge consistently during his first assignment and oftentimes took the conn when a high ranking officer was not present, appointed by the Captain. His record in Starfleet remains unblemished so far, with commendations from his previous CO’s.
