Summary

A veteran of both the Romulan Star Empire and the Star Empire of Rator’s Galae Command, Aetius Lotharn is a new arrival to the ranks of the Romulan Republic Navy. Seasoned in war across times of peace and chaos alike, he honed a reputation as a man of both duty and honour, navigating his orders and assignments with an eye on what was best for his troubled people, while openly disliking the politics intrinsic to his work. This won him few friends or accolades, and by the time of the fall of the Star Empire of Rator, Lotharn held authority largely through the navy’s disorganisation and desperation.

His refusal to complete the violent subjugation of the Agarath system as it promised to secede from Rator – and ultimately joined the Republic – saw the end of his career in Galae Command in 2400. This seemed to the satisfaction of both parties, and Lotharn abandoned his post with a handful of ships that would follow him. Over the following two years, he sought to establish himself as a warlord, a last stalwart of true Romulan principles, despising the Tal Shiar and the perceived weakness of the Republic too much to side with either.

He was, inevitably, overthrown and betrayed, his principles making him a poor warlord, and slunk with what battered materiel he could to the arms of the last possible choice for a place he could make a difference for his people: the democratic Romulan Republic. With most equipment he brought melted down for raw resources and most personnel abandoning him over the years, all Lotharn has left are his wits and experience as he stands among the ranks of those he hunted and fought for over a decade.

His command of the RRW Decimus is more of a reflection of the Republic’s need for seasoned commanders than of Lotharn’s capabilities. It is telling that he has at once been dispatched to perhaps what he finds the most unsavoury post of all: direct cooperation with Starfleet, his ship serving in the ranks of the Fourth Fleet.
