Summary
Ian Thornton stands at 6 foot, 12 stone (170 pounds), dark reddish brown hair (cut in a short flat top) and Hazel eyes and what many would consider a runners physique. Ian almost always carries an old English style pipe, if he is not smoking it he usually has it in the side of his mouth, often using it to point out certain things especially if he is trying to draw attention to something in particular. Ian has a reputation of being fair but harsh when warranted, hard to anger and a way of speaking that lets you know that he speaks from experience and intelligence that goes beyond just being “book smart”.
History
Ian was born on 17 September 2349 to the Irish-American Thornton family that could trace its roots back to the Thorntons of Inisfree Ireland. Ian was born during a massive storm in the family’s home on the coast of Massachusetts, his mother swears that Ian gained his temperament from the power and wrath of that storm. As the youngest of five children Ian was constantly cosseted on by his older sisters, bullied by his brothers and the spark in his mothers eye.

During a family trip to his grandfather’s house Ian found letters and an old diary PADD in a storage container that had his late grandmother’s name and the Star Fleet symbol etched into the top while exploring his grandfather’s attic. He spent every moment that he could during the trip up in that attic reading the letters diary, as he read the stories he often imagined himself sitting behind the helm alongside his grandmother “flying” the great ships of Star Fleet. Reading those stories lit a fire inside of him, he now knew and understood that he could no longer be just a student that he could no longer just get by in his studies. That summer brought a change over the young Thornton, one that his family started to notice during the waning days of summer as they prepared to return home and prepared for the start o f the new school year. Ian knew as summer turned to fall that he now had one goal one dream to one day follow in his grandmother’s footsteps, to one day “fly” the great ships of Star Fleet
