Professor Lorrot is the Distinguished Professor of Genetic Engineering at the Haryalevard Academy of Business Management on Ferenginar, senior research fellow at the Daystrom Institute on Earth, and a visiting fellow in genetic engineering onboard the USS Olympic.

Lorrot is a Ferengi of formidable intellect, a master of genetic engineering whose mind can unravel the code of life as easily as another Ferengi might balance a ledger. Yet his genius is bent always toward profit: he speaks of medical miracles and technological revolutions not in the context of academic freedom, but as commodities to be owned and businesses to be created.

When it serves his purpose he can be persuasive, even magnetic, painting visions so vivid that one might forget they were only bait for the trap. In truth, he despises those who cannot match his pace and treats error as a crime. His schemes of punishments for wayward colleagues are conniving, swift and merciless, and those who oppose him often find themselves ruined. Knowledge, to him, is not a light to be passed from hand to hand, but a hoard to be guarded, patented, and sold at the highest price. Even his moments of apparent generosity are calculated to best serve his future business interests, for he understands that in science, as in commerce, an appearance of virtue can be the most profitable deceit of all.
