Summary
Lieutenant Commander Sorren is the Chief Science Officer of the USS Tempest. Born in the Cardassian Union, his parents were dissidents who opposed the Union’s alliance with the Dominion, and fled to the waiting arms of political asylum in the Federation. Sorren finished his education in the Federation, joined Starfleet, and never looked back. Since then, he has had a long career as a Starfleet officer specialising in archaeological science. Brilliant and insightful, but arrogant and self-interested, his personality and occasional tendency to view lives and populaces as figures and puzzles have held him back from advancing beyond his current station, a circumstance which seems to suit Sorren fine; he is happiest when in the field. Or, rather, in a lab aboard a starship, reading the direct reports from an away team actually getting their hands dirty.
Sorren almost always acts as if he thinks he is the smartest person in the room, a behaviour shaken only in the company of Captain Pentecost. Under such circumstances, they are both the smartest people in the room, each with their distinct strengths. Rather than humbling him, this partnership has, somehow, only made him more insufferable.
