(he/him)

Character Information

Rank & Address

Lieutenant Kalo

Assignment

Retired

Appearance

Kalo has pale blue skin that’s almost white, long white hair that he sometimes puts into a pony tail or bun to keep it out of the way. He refuses to cut it because of Klingon beliefs about hair. His eyes are completely white. He’s about 6 feet tall, and slender but strongly built due to his combat training and athletic hobbies. He has 2 antenna on his head, like all Aenar, as well as ridges on his forehead.

Personality

Kalo cares deeply about helping people, which is what led him to Starfleet. He’s a people person, and great at understanding others, both due to having telepathic abilities (which he’s now learned to control and doesn’t use without consent) and also due to growing up around so many cultures. Culture is a thing that’s important to him, and he frequently has identity crises because it seems like everything related to him is so… complicated. Is he Klingon or is he Aenar? He likes how in Starfleet, it doesn’t really matter so much.

History

BACKSTORY

EARLY LIFE

Kalo was born in the year 2375 at a Federation penal colony. His parents had been Aenar who refused the ways of their people and instead lent their abilities to a band of space pirates, and had been captured and incarcerated. Kalo was taken from them to be adopted by a Klingon couple who were both serving in Starfleet. They didn’t have any other children, and they raised him in the Klingon culture, but he was also introduced to plenty of others while he grew up at various space stations and starbases. However, he never met other Aenar like himself in person until he was a teenager, and as far as he was concerned, he was basically a normal Klingon child who happened to look differently and be blind and telepathic. Some of his parents’ extended families had remained in their lives despite them having joined Starfleet, and Kalo’s parents wouldn’t tolerate any of them not accepting their adopted child.

Meeting other Aenar and learning more about their culture was interesting for Kalo. He was happy with his Klingon family and he planned to join Starfleet when he was an adult, but their culture was very warlike compared to the pacifist Aenar that he was beginning to learn about. At 16, he went to attend school on Andoria, in the Northern Wastes, with other Aenar because he was curious what he had been missing. He spent breaks with his parents, wherever they were posted.

WHY STARFLEET?

Kalo was inspired to join Starfleet by his parents. When he was younger, he thought he’d be a tactical officer like his mom or a security officer like his dad. But after his time on Andoria, he decided though he still wanted to be in Starfleet, he wanted to go into the medical field. This was a bit hard for his parents to accept, since he’d always been their little warrior, and they encouraged him to find a specialty that would get him involved in more combat, but he pointed out that nurses and doctors are needed everywhere. His parents and some of the other kids he grew up with who were Starfleet bound as well helped him study and get accepted.

LIFE AT THE ACADEMY

Kalo attended the Starfleet Academy in San Francisco after graduating from an Aenar high school. He wasn’t sure if Andoria or Qo’noS was his true home, but regardless, Starfleet certainly was. He was glad to be back and to be training for his career. In his first year, he joined as many clubs as he possibly could, as well as playing traditional Klingon sports in the teams. Like he had planned, he specialized in the medical field. He struggled with his science and technology courses, but he was determined to be able to heal people. In his third year, he learned about the Starline club, and decided to try it out. He found that he really enjoyed providing emotional support to other cadets, but decided to focus on nursing for his primary career since it was more in demand.
