Sarah Overson

Lieutenant JG Sarah Overson was born in 2376 in New Angeles, a domed city carved into the rugged terrain of Luna. The city was best known for its sprawling shipyards. Silhouettes of drydocked vessels above and the hum of construction framed everyday life. These shipyards inspired dreams of spaceflight for many locals. For Sarah, all the talk about ships became noise. She grew up restless beneath the skyless dome. Every conversation seemed to lead back to hull integrity, warp core designs, or the glory of vessel commissions. While others were transfixed by steel and plasma conduits, she turned her gaze inward towards diverse people.

Sarah became a student of behavior from an early age. The docking concourses of Luna brought species from across the quadrant. Each group had their own way of moving, speaking and thinking. She watched and imitated them. Her home life was stable, though she felt distant from her family. Her parents were engineers who worked opposite shifts and spoke most often about work logistics. Sarah learned to entertain herself and adapt to any social group. She could draw people in through mimicry, humor, and occasional bluntness. Her curiosity about others came from a deep-seated need to understand where she belonged.

2387–2393: School Years

Sarah excelled in her classes through sheer force of will. She was not naturally gifted in mathematics or science, but she was sharp and driven. Her greatest strength was observation. She could read the room, identify tension, and adapting to the environment. By sixteen, she’d joined her school’s drama club. This sharpened her ability to perform across species types and emotional ranges. Her portrayals were uncanny, even sometimes unsettling. The redheaded girl could become somebody else with disarming ease.

She joined a Federation Youth Political Forum in 2393. There she debated ethics, trade, and security policy with peers from across the Federation. Her opinions were strong and often polarizing. She carried herself with confidence that helped her step past her isolation. Politics sparked a new ambition. She wanted to be more than an observer. Sarah wanted to lead.

2394–2398: Starfleet Academy

She chose the satellite campus on Mellstoxx III for its prestige. The Fourth Fleet was where she wanted to serve. She initially entered as a Security cadet, aiming to establish a strong tactical foundation. A covert operations seminar in her first year changed her path. Instructors noticed her ability to shift personas and stay calm under scrutiny. The cadet had an uncanny sense for things that weren’t being said. A transfer into the Intelligence track arrived during year two.

She flourished in the new program. Precision, secrecy and adaptability were traits she spent her entire life refining. She joined the drill and ceremonies team in 2395, rising to become team captain by 2397. Many long hours were spent marching along the massive parade grounds between the campus buildings. Sarah also remained active in the drama club during all four years. The young thespian tackled roles ranging from Ferengi con-artists to epic Klingon heroines. Castmates knew her for rarely breaking character between scenes.

2398–2399: Starbase 21

Following graduation, Ensign Overson was assigned to Starbase 21 for advanced Intelligence training. The station’s remote location made it a preferred site for classified operations development. She underwent rigorous instruction in infiltration methods, planetary disguise protocols, and behavioral embedding. Her certification as an Infiltration Specialist came after several high-stress simulations involving impersonation and cultural submersion.

It was during this time that she worked with displaced Romulan groups arriving from collapsing colony systems. Sarah found these missions uniquely difficult. Many of the refugees were suspicious of Starfleet officers. A stronger sense of what cultural empathy meant resulted from observing the refugees. Trust could be more valuable than subterfuge, though it was much harder to earn.

2399–2401: USS Wakefield

Her first full Intelligence posting came aboard the Edison-class cruiser Wakefield. The ship operated along unstable sectors near the Breen border. The vessel’s intelligence team gathered field data to support the vulnerable convoys it escorted. In 2399, she assisted response efforts following the Breen’s surprise attack on Guardian Station. Though not directly engaged in combat, she was swept up in the aftermath. Her team was involved in psychological assessments and surveillance sweeps of the area.

The Wakefield gave her the chance to see practical starship operations in practice. It also gave her time to refine her techniques. She ran training exercises, prepared field briefs, and slipped into undercover roles that helped the crew gather information.

2402–Present: USS Cardinal

In February 2402, Lt. JG Overson was temporarily assigned to the USS Cardinal as part of a small team charged with preparing the ship’s Intelligence systems. The infiltration specialist participated in an eight-week training module for junior Intelligence officers. The course focused on sensor data interpretation, deception detection, and basic infiltration tactics. She appreciated the quiet aboard the ship during this period. There was always time to think, plan, and space to feel removed from her demanding fieldwork.

The Cardinal was recalled to full service after the Vaadwaur invasion highlighted a need for advanced readiness. Sarah was offered a permanent role on one of the Fourth Fleet’s most active Intel teams. The ship’s mission is set to take her back towards the border with the Breen. Her skills and knowledge are integral to operation aboard the Nebula-class vessel.
