Appearance

Lieutenant Commander Amara presents a striking figure, embodying the poise and discipline that defines her dual heritage, those being Human and Vulcan. Standing at 176 centimeters in height, weighing only 59 kilograms, she has a lean yet athletic build. She exudes a sense of physical fitness honed through regular Vulcan disciplines such as Suus Mahna and kal-toh, and several of Earth’s various martial arts disciplines, like Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, and Muay Thai. Her posture is impeccable, reflecting her Vulcan training in control and mindfulness and being a descendant of Chuck Norris.

Her dark brown hair is typically styled in a neat, practical manner, often pulled back into a low bun or ponytail, emphasizing her sharp features and focused demeanor. A few strands occasionally frame her face, adding a touch of softness to her otherwise composed appearance. He also has been known to be more relaxed, with her hairstyle, when off duty. This is part of the internal struggle she has always had to deal with her entire life, the constant clashing of two worlds.

Her eyes are one of her most captivating features. They are a unique blend of her human mother’s warm, earthy brown and her Vulcan father’s piercing gray. This striking combination conveys both intelligence and emotional control, hinting at the balance she maintains between logic and compassion. Her gaze is direct yet measured, often assessing situations with a calm, analytical intensity that commands respect and can only be outdone by a select few Vulcans.

Amara wears the standard Starfleet blue uniform with precision, her attire always immaculate and in perfect alignment with regulations. Her badge, polished to a gleam, proudly displays her rank and position as Chief Science Officer. The silver delta insignia of the Science division rests over her heart, symbolizing her dedication to discovery and exploration. Even in the most challenging situations, her uniform remains a symbol of her professionalism and commitment to duty.

Despite her adherence to Starfleet’s uniform code, Amara’s personal style subtly reflects her mixed heritage. A small, intricately designed Vulcan pendant, a family heirloom, often rests beneath her uniform, serving as a private reminder of her roots and the values instilled in her. Her demeanor, like her attire, is a blend of logic and elegance, mirroring the balance she strives to maintain in all aspects of her life.

Personality

Lieutenant Commander Amara is a unique blend of her Vulcan and Human heritage. She embodies the strengths of both, but also the inner conflict from both worlds…the well known “logic vs. emotion” conflict.

Her Vulcan side provides her with a logical and analytical mindset, allowing her to approach problems with clarity and precision. Her Human side offers her the emotional side of life, which she has found a way to meld both concepts to work within her life. She is disciplined in her Vulcan way of thinking, often weighing options and considering multiple perspectives before making a decision. Her Human half allows her to add the emotional variable to the logic equation in any given situation. She vigorously studied all the missions from Captain’s James T. Kirk and Spock, to fine tune for her ability to meld together logic with emotion. This logical framework also grants her emotional restraint, enabling her to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations, a valuable asset in her role as Chief Science Officer, or if she chose to switch to the command track.

Her Vulcan upbringing has also instilled in her a deep respect for knowledge and discipline. Amara approaches her work with a sense of duty and responsibility, striving for excellence in all aspects of her duties. She is meticulous in her research and analysis, ensuring that her conclusions are based on empirical evidence and sound reasoning. At the same time, her human side brings a sense of curiosity and wonder to her work. Amara is driven by a desire to explore the unknown and uncover the secrets of the universe. She is fascinated by the complexities of the natural world and is always seeking to understand the underlying principles that govern it. This curiosity is balanced by her compassion and empathy for others, allowing her to approach problems with a sense of humanity and understanding.

As Chief Science Officer, Amara’s unique blend of logic and creativity serves her well. She is able to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions, often thinking outside the box to find answers. Her approach is both rigorous and flexible, allowing her to adapt to changing circumstances and unexpected challenges.

Despite her composed and logical demeanor, Amara has a dry sense of humor that she shares with her closest colleagues. She often uses her wit to defuse tense situations or make pointed observations about the absurdities of life in space. Beneath her reserved exterior, Amara has a deep loyalty to her crewmates and will go to great lengths to support and protect them. She expresses this loyalty in subtle but meaningful ways, often through small gestures or thoughtful actions that demonstrate her commitment to her team.

In her interactions with others, Amara’s Human and Vulcan sides are expertly balanced. She is able to convey empathy and understanding while maintaining a logical and objective perspective. This balance allows her to build strong relationships with her crewmates and work effectively with others to achieve common goals.

History

Early Life (2332 to 2350)

Soraya Arama grew up on the outskirts of Orlando, Florida in the year 2332. Her parents were both professional scientists. Her mother, Janet Marie Amara was a celebrated biologist with the University of Orlando all her life. Her Vulcan father, T’Voran, was a profound master of Physics at the Vulcan Science Academy. Her parents met at a medical conference on the planet Denobula, where the keynote speaker was a grandson of Doctor Phlox in 2325. Since her mother lived on Earth and her father was on Vulcan, T’Voran moved to live on Earth, in 2327. Her parents got married in 2330 and gave birth to Soraya Arama in May 2332.

By being born to a human mother and a Vulcan father, Amara was raised in a household that valued both logic and emotional intelligence. She demonstrated a natural aptitude for the sciences from a young age and was encouraged to pursue a career in Starfleet after she graduated from high school. Soraya Arama graduated from Jonathan Archer High School in Orlando in May 2350 and immediately wanted to join Starfleet Academy. Her grades were so impressive that she got a special recommendation with her Starfleet Academy application by Former Commander T’Pol.

Starfleet Academy (2350 to 2354)

Soraya Arama entered the Academy in 2350 and easily aced her general studies and most of the basic science classes. Her Academic Advisor recommended her for an Elite Science Program, to challenge her. Even with tougher classes, she still was aceing them. She graduated from the Academy Science Division as a Valedictorian. Her science program classes mainly focused on general physics and space sciences. She got a Master’s in both areas at the same time.

Amara’s primary goal with her academic foundation was to have it firmly set in physics and the space sciences, which she honed during her time at Starfleet Academy. This serves as the bedrock for her analytical prowess. Her studies in advanced astrophysics and exoplanetary science have equipped her with the expertise to dissect complex phenomena and devise innovative solutions. Amara’s Vulcan training in logic, which she rigorously applied during her Academy days, enables her to remain composed and focused under pressure, identifying the most rational course of action even in the most critical situations.

As a testament to her Vulcan heritage, Amara adheres to the philosophy of IDIC, Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. It is not only a Vulcan mantra, but one she takes to heart, that resonates deeply within her. This mantra only fuels her passion for exploration and underscoring her commitment to understanding and preserving the vast, intricate web of life in the universe. It is this profound respect for the diversity of existence that is beautifully balanced by her human side, which imbues her with a boundless curiosity about the cosmos. It is this curiosity that drives her to continually seek out new knowledge and push the boundaries of scientific understanding. Although, while her Vulcan side ensures that this pursuit is guided by logic, discipline, and a deep appreciation for the elegance and complexity of the universe, ultimately, it is her Human side that instills in her a sense of wonder and awe that is both inspiring and humbling.

Vulcan Science Academy (2354 to 2362)

Following her outstanding academic achievement as Valedictorian of Starfleet Academy’s Science Division in 2354, she received a prestigious invitation to join the esteemed Vulcan Science Academy, from former Commander T’Pol. This rare honor was a testament to her exceptional academic prowess and dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge. The invitation was further bolstered by a special recommendation from Amanda Grayson, the human mother of Spock and first wife of the renowned Ambassador Sarek. Ambassador Sarek himself lent his support to her candidacy, underscoring the significance of this opportunity and her potential to make meaningful contributions to the scientific community. Her acceptance into the Vulcan Science Academy marked a pivotal moment in her career, offering her the chance to engage with the Vulcan scientific elite and further hone her skills in a rigorous and logic-driven environment.

This is where her passion for the sciences went from regular warp speed to transwarp drive. Her passion for the sciences only intensified and drove her harder. The strict Vulcan customs enhanced her focus and mentality. During her time at the Vulcan Science Academy, she excelled in her areas of studies of Physics and Space Sciences. After she completed her studies at the Vulcan Science Academy, she requested to be reinstated into Starfleet. Her request was granted by Command and she was posted on the Excelsior class starship, USS Michigan, NCC-61914 in 2362 as a Junior Science Officer.

USS Michigan, NCC-61914 (2362 to 2367)

Soraya Arama was posted to the USS Michigan and given a field promotion from Cadet to Ensign by the Michigan’s Commanding Officer, Captain Edward Lewis, in 2362. She was assigned as a Junior Science Officer in the Astrometrics Department, where she served there for a year. Then she was transferred to the ship’s Xenobiology Department for another year, where she headed up a major cataloging mission for a previously unexplored planet in the Best Quadrant. That project helped get her a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade and posted to Night Shift Bridge Science Officer in 2364.

Lieutenant JG Soraya Arama served with distinction as she served as Night Shift Bridge Science Officer. She cataloged a previously unknown class 2 comet and headed up two biological surveys on two different Class M planets in Sector 47541 for possible colonization. She also headed up the Stellar Cartography Department in conducting a major plasma experiment that led to increased warp plasma efficiency. It was this accomplishment that pushed her to an early promotion to the rank of full Lieutenant in late 2365. She was then assigned as the Assistant Chief Science Officer and Beta shift Bridge Science Officer. She was responsible for detecting, cataloging, and recording a sun go nova in Sector 49843. She served with distinction as the Assistant Chief Science Officer for the USS Michigan until early 2367, where she was given the opportunity to teach at Starfleet Academy in the Science Program. She accepted the invitation and left the USS Michigan in November 2367.

Starfleet Academy (2367 to 2380)

Lieutenant Soraya Arama’s first class she taught was General Physics, where she taught for three years, from December 2367 to May 2370. During her time as a Professor for Physics, she created a theory that could help detect the formation of when a black hole will form.

In the fall of 2370, she was reassigned to teach the Space Sciences, and was in that position for around three years, from the winter of 2370 until summer of 2374. During her time as a Professor for Space Sciences, she created a new algorithm that enhanced the current Stellar Cartography systems on long range sensors. She was given her fourth citation for excellence.

She was transferred to the Xenobiology Department in the fall of 2374 and was a Professor for another three years. She taught hundreds of cadets the difference between an Andorian and a Vulcan. She taught Xenobiology until the summer of 2377. She took on more teaching opportunities from the summer of 2377 until 2380. She expanded her teaching ability to include Subspace Geometry, as an Engineering/Science elite class, and an advanced class of Temporal Mechanics.

She felt proud of the fact that she was helping to teach younger cadets to become the best version of themselves and to serve Starfleet and the Federation. In the fall of 2380, after teaching various Science classes at the Academy, outer space was calling her name once more and she requested a new assignment as Science Officer.

Utopia Planitia Shipyards (2380 to 2400)

Starfleet Command reassigned her to a special Science/Engineering project at Utopia Planitia Shipyards, codenamed Project: Slipstream, where she worked on the project until 2400. She was assigned there as the Director of Sciences for the project, under the command of Admiral Chester Nimitz IV.

In 2390, she earned a field promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander after she led her sciences department through a major breakthrough. She requested the Admiral to give the credit to her team and not herself. She stayed on the project until 2400 when she requested a ship assignment. Starfleet Command granted her request, with a special request from Admiral Nimitz IV. She was transferred to the USS Carlsbad and posted as Chief Science Officer in 2400.

USS Carlsbad, NCC-73110 (2400 to Present)

Lieutenant Commander Soraya Arama served under Commander Hadir Prenar from 2400 to 2402. She served as Commander Prenar’s Chief Science Officer for two years as the USS Carlsbad patrolled the old Cardassian border regions prior to the Dominion War. She now serves under the USS Carlsbad’s new commanding officer, Captain Kirok Skyrunner.
