Vaughn keeps his hair short, and neatly combed, a reflection of his steadfast discipline. His square jawed face is sharp with high cheekbones, and is accentuated by a full, rough beard. His deep blue eyes are stalwart, cold, and steady. They hardly ever flicker, they only assess, and give the sense that he is capable of seeing both through walls and lies with ease.
He doesn’t need to be the center of attention, yet, when he enters a room, it’s not only his towering size that draws gazes, but the quiet authority he carries around him.
Though he may look like a brute at first glance, Vaughn, it’s his focus on protection and his sharp tactical mind that set him apart. His colleagues often call him “The Wall”, a nickname that both fits his physique as his steadfast dedication to keeping others safe.
Personality
Promotions have come and gone, but for Reeve Vaugn being a Starfleet Officer isn’t about titles or ranks, instead he values the quiet safety that allows his crew to do their jobs without concern.
Driven by a deep sense of duty and loyalty rather than ambition, his actions speak louder than words. Vaughn finds satisfaction in keeping the peace and focuses on the details that others may overlook. He is the type of person who is always ready to act when the situation calls for it, often without hesitation or thought for his own well-being.
Vaugh is reserved and introverted, speaking little and preferring to observe in the background rather than take center stage. He is very content with his role on the lower decks of the Medea and takes pride in performing the often overlooked but essential work that may not be glorious, but ensures the safety of his ship and fellow officers.
In his downtime, Vaughn enjoys playing the saxophone and cello to unwind, though he’d never perform in front of others, it’s a private hobby he keeps to the comfort of his own quarters.
History
Early Life (2367 – 2385)
Reeve Vaughn was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, a city surrounded by the impressive mountains and forests. Growing up, he developed a deep connection to nature, spending countless hours hiking through the wilderness, exploring the rugged trails, and absorbing the quiet beauty of the natural world around him and caring for his own body. His other passions were playing the saxophone and reading. His novels offered him an escape, allowing him to journey into fantastical realms and imagine adventures beyond the limits of his daily life.
Vaughn’s parents worked in law enforcement and he bore witness to their dedication and unwavering commitment to serving their community. Even though their work was demanding and often dangerous, it never tempered their resolve. Vaughn came to admire their strength, integrity, and sense of duty, and it left a lasting impression on him. From an early age he was determined to follow in their footsteps, believing that the same sense of justice and responsibility that guided them was in his blood.
Yet, as much as he respected his parents’ path, Vaughn’s love for books fueled his imagination and stirred a longing for something more. He began to dream not only of upholding the law but also of exploring the unknown, of living out stories that stretched far beyond the mundane. It was in the pages of his favorite novels that he found a sense of freedom, one that balanced the discipline of his parents’ work with the boundless potential of his own dreams.
Starfleet Academy (2385 – 2389)
When Vaughn turned 18, he left behind Vancouver and joined Starfleet, trading the familiar landscapes of his hometown for the prestigious halls of Starfleet Academy. His impressive physique, composed demeanor, and methodical approach to problem-solving quickly set him apart in the fields of security and tactical operations. Although he didn’t form many friendships beyond his roommate, Vaughn devoted himself entirely to his studies, immersing himself in the rigorous training. During his time at the Academy, he also discovered a new passion—playing the cello, which provided him a rare form of solace and creative expression.
USS Barentsz (2389 – 2401)
After graduating, Vaughn was assigned to the USS Barentsz, a ship stationed on the outskirts of Federation space. There he grew in his role overseeing security protocols, carrying out patrols, and leading emergency drills with a calm precision. Despite his skills, Vaughn found himself continuesly overlooked when it came to an promotion. The steady crew of the Barentsz meant that opportunities for advancement were rare, and Command seemed content with the status quo. With time Vaughn came to realize that he found true satisfaction in the quiet responsibility of his work, knowing that his contributions, no matter how unseen, were vital to the safety and stability of the crew.
250th Frontier Day (2401)
In 2401, the Federation was thrown into chaos during the 240th Frontier Day celebrations. What should have been a day of unity became a nightmare when the Changelings, allied with rogue the Borg, launched a devastating attack on the Federation.
The USS Barentsz was stationed at the edge of Federation space and because of that the signal didn’t reach them and their younger officers were spared the horrible faith of assimilation, still the Barentz found itself at the heart of the crisis, with Vaughn and his team working tirelessly to secure the ship after it was infiltrated by Changeling operatives. Though he wasn’t on the front lines, Vaughn played a crucial role in maintaining control and protecting the crew. His calm under pressure earned him the respect of his peers, but he didn’t seek recognition. He simply went back to his job, knowing that the work mattered more than the praise.
USS Medea (2401 – Present)
When the Barentsz was reassigned, Vaughn transferred to the USS Medea. His experiences during the Frontier Day attack reinforced his belief that Starfleet isn’t about glory or rank, it’s about the essential work that keeps everything running smoothly which could change in an instance. Respected by his fellow lower deckers, many of whom were much younger, Vaughn earned the nickname “The Wall”, a title he wears with pride.
