Summary
To be Suliban is to live through the suspicious eyes of others. They believe the legacy of your people is one of secrets and half-truths, that the only gift of your forebears are deceit and dark deeds, trust will be forever out of reach. Whilst these are fallacies to the Suliban now, having long left behind the Cabal and its penchant for genetic modification, Nirrishan continues to find assumptions are made of her by those who have not even crossed her path.
In truth, Nirrishan is more likely to sneak into your room to hide a surprise basket of muffins than to pounce on you in your sleep. A kind and considerate woman, she is often regarded amongst the crew of Brittania as the premier gift giver, her highly tuned skills of observation making her an astute student of people.
Nirrishan understands her work is of great importance to the safety and security of her friends and colleagues and is proud to turn her incredible skills of observation outward, looking for threats before they become more than mutters in the spaceport.
Appearance
Slight and athletic, Nirrishan’s nimble form is regularly seen in the ship’s gym, where she finds hours spent on the rowing machines giving her a welcome clarity. She shares the hairless skin of her kin, a mottled yellow colour with deep-set eyes of dark chocolate brown. Standing at 5’2″ she is easily lost in a crowd, which serves her well as she quietly monitors the chatter that surrounds her.
Personality
Few are willing to cross Nirrishan, some through fear but many through her litany of favours that extend far beyond the small office she keeps on Britannia. Nirrishan holds fast to the belief that one good turn deserves another and after several years of service in major hubs around the Federation has earned more than one good turn from people across known space. She knows the value of these favours and holds them in reserve, ready to call on one of her many friends across the quadrant when a crisis is on the rise.
Beyond the necessity of her work, Nirrishan believes that kindness is a virtue. Despite the suspicion, distrust and downright xenophobia she has faced over the years, she continues to be adamant in her belief that the people who inhabit the galaxy are good at the core.
History
Early Life
Born on one of many ships that carry the expansive adoptive nomadic families of the Suliban diaspora, Nirrishan became the centre of the rumour mill early on. As a child, she would criss-cross the claustrophobic corridors of her home as it chugged along at low warp, carrying messages and whispers with unmatched speed throughout the vessel. A correction for an erroneous report, a promise of payment for debts at the next trading post, a declaration of love coupled with an Andorian Rose, Nirrishan knew every corner of her ship and her shipmate’s lives. She loved it. Whats more she could be trusted to know when to speak and when to stay silent.
As she grew so did her role as confidant and when the ship’s captain took a keen interest in her, she found herself an important part of the command team seeking to maximise the communal safety and security of the ship. An incident on Mirridican Prime, where her observational skills saved the vessel from corrupt administrators of the Klingon Empire, solidified Nirirshan as an important part of the ship’s future.
Unfortunately, that future was not to be and when the antique ship was caught in a violent ion storm Nirrishan was only 1 of a dozen of survivors that managed to escape aboard the rickety escape pods. When Starfleet found them a new possibility whispered in her ear, another life, another family.
Early Starfleet Service
Nirrishan passed through Starfleet without much struggle, her formative years aboard the ageing trade ships had involved a quick learning curve when it came to operations and life aboard a starship. Whilst she faced some hills with her classmates due to her Suliban heritage, her troubles were quickly quelled with a basket of muffins and tip about on the warp dynamics final. She graduated with honours and with her focus in criminology was deployed with Starfleet Security’s colonial support arm, finding herself working to assist security investigations and operations throughout colonies on the Klingon Border. Here she quickly built connections and a reputation for discrete investigations, bringing several high-profile targets to justice.
After several years Nirrishan felt the call of space once more, it wasn’t sufficient to wander the streets of the city at night, staring up at the stars any longer. She wished to be amongst them once more, the ground was too still, too quiet.
Initially transferred to Starbase Bravo as part of the Signals Intelligence division she quickly found her skills better served as part of the investigations team aboard the police cutters USS Noor and later USS Szabo, where her name became synonymous with a successful investigation. During her tenure, the number of completed operations skyrocketed and they quickly garnered a reputation for effective and accurate pre-emptive policing throughout the region, in no small part thanks to Nirrishan’s excellent deductive skills.
Transfer to Brittania Division
In 2400, with Szabo scheduled for extensive midlife service refits at the Avalon Fleet Yards, many of the crew found themselves facing the spectre of reassignment, Nirrishan however received a more personal offer. Captain Harrison was redeploying with Brittania to the Klingon/Gorn border to begin the long process of making safe avenues out into the unexplored regions beyond both territories. Intelligence would be vital and Captain Harrison’s inbox had been filled with recommendations from her colleagues in Starfleet Security, all of them bore Nirrishan’s name. A personal invitation appeared on Nirrishan’s console just as Szabo slipped into the arms of the drydock and she was on the transport shuttle a few hours later.
In 2401, Britannia was redeployed to the Federation’s inner sphere to provide support in rebuilding efforts following Frontier Day and Nirrishan found her skills applied to investigating criminals who sought to take advantage of the chaos of a reduced Starfleet. Here she found a darkness on the rise in the heart of the Federation. Frontier Day, combined with the events of the Lost Fleet and Borg Resurgence, had changed the Federation as old fears clung to new panics. Whilst investigating smugglers on Tildari VII, Nirrishan found herself turned away from the small colony’s few bars and when a small band of angry colonists cornered her in an alley, she saw the dark face of this fear. Though saved by her shipmates, she found safety back in her small office, listening to the whispers of intelligence from afar, refusing to leave the ship for several months.
Now Britannia finds itself back on the Klingon Border, seeking and pursuing a Starfleet fugitive. Division Commander Tanek required a skilled intelligence officer to sift through the piles of conflicting reports and almost overwhelming amounts of information. Captain Harrison had one recommendation and now Commander Nirrishan has a new sanctuary at the heart of Brittania, with all the whispers of the region at her fingertips.
