Summary
Angel is a young officer, hardened first by tragedy in youth and again by conflict in the Dominion War. She keeps herself to herself and doesn’t talk much of her inner thoughts and feelings or the past. She’s focussed, determined, effective and a little rough. Always unwavering and dutiful, Angel takes the responsibilities of being an Officer very seriously and this is the only part of her heart that is on show.
Appearance
If one had to describe Angel in one phrase, it might be “intriguing from afar and scary up-close”. Angel stands at 5’10” with a lithe, toned physique. She has long brown hair which has streaks of grey running throughout. Due to an accident during her youth she has two long scars on her face, below each eye. Unaffected by her accident, her right eye is blue. The left which was sadly damaged is a cloudy grey and contains an ocular implant. The other more prominent result of the accident is a cybernetic arm which is metallic in finish and has visible links and servos when not covered by a uniform. The structures and support for the arm are attached under the skin and go through her shoulder and around the front and back of her upper rib cage. The rest of her upper body is covered in tattoos. Thanks to her cybernetic arm, she weighs in at 176lbs. Angel takes great pains over her appearance, always looking made-up and professional to try to offset the more uncommon aspects of her appearance.
Angel appears left-handed, as she does most things with her left hand. Her detail vision from her left eye is sorely lacking, however she can detect other things with the implant, including non-visible light, heat signatures and has some extra warning of cloaked Jem’Hadar, although she can’t actually see them fully. She can however see very well in the dark, but can be blinded or even rendered unconcious by sudden and massive changes in light levels.
Personality
Predominantly quiet and rather hard-edged, Angel is often as scary in demeanour as she looks. While she isn’t closed-off, if one has the bottle to attempt a conversation with her, one can come out of it and realise she hasn’t said anything about herself, her thoughts, feelings or her past. Angel is tough and expects the highest standards from those around her, but she is always fair and will have the backs of her fellow security personnel. She’s unwaveringly loyal to Starfleet. Angel rarely smiles and her stares have a habit of making people feel transparent.

History
Angel is the fourth child of the Blake family, a renowned group of acrobatic gymnasts who form part of a travelling circus that tours Federation space bringing old-fashioned Big Top performances to a new world every couple of weeks. Angel, like her siblings was trained from very young to be part of the act and is an accomplished gymnast still with exceptional balance, one of the things that makes her an effective fighter.
At the age of fifteen, Angel saved her older sister Adaline from a falling piece of framework that broke as the main circus tent was being felled after a visit to one of the smaller Federation colonies. Angel sustained various injuries ranging in severity. She lost the sight of her left eye, but most serious was her right arm which was crushed. Fearing her nerves may not take to a new limb if her situation wasn’t acted on quickly, the decision was made to use whatever technology was available in that part of space, rather than take a weeks-long journey to a more advanced world. Hence, Angel was fitted with a cybernetic arm which she has had ever since.
After the accident it quickly became apparent that Angel was no longer able to take part in the family business. She lacked the flexibility in her arm to reach directly overhead (she still can’t do this) and her right hand and arm are so strong that they pose a risk to others if she should need to grab on to them. Angel went into a spiral of depression, watching her family perform without her. Pouring her pain into artwork she turned to tattoos to keep her entertained and stable, spending hours and hours devising the drawings and artwork and enduring the pain of the needle. This acted as her therapy, and after a year of recovery, art, pain and soul-searching Angel decided to go somewhere her cybernetics would be a boon, not a hindrance. After a short consultation to confirm suitability Angel started studying in earnest to become a Starfleet officer, joining up at age nineteen.
Thanks to her exceptional balance , strength and spatial awareness, Angel was able to excel in security and piloting at the Academy. Passing the rest of her required subjects tolerably well, she was posted straight to the front lines of the growing conflict with the Dominion, immediately seeing service and gaining herself a reputation in battle for being an extremely effective leader, a solid tactician and a legend in hand-to-hand. She was promoted quickly into the shoes of those who had died around her. Now, after nearly two years of constant conflict Angel has been promoted again in recognition of her work and assigned to Starship duty as a respite from the constant ground-pounding.
