Summary
Malcolm Ryder is the newest Executive Officer of the USS Edmund Hillary. Raised in a large family, he developed a strong sense of responsibility early in his life. Entering the Academy in 2388, he specialized in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on propulsion. Known for his energetic personality, he always busy on the go doing something to keep his mind occupied.

Personality
Malcolm is energetic, busy, and never content to remain idle. He channels his endless curiosity and drive into solving engineering puzzles, refining ship systems, and mentoring Junior Officers. Even in his downtime, he is occupied with tinkering on devices, reading technical manuals, or building his model ships. While highly effective, his constant energy sometimes makes his appear to be impatient to those who don’t know him well.
History
Personal History
Born in Belfast Ireland, Malcolm is the fourth of six children born to Patrick and Siobhan Ryder. Raised in a lively houseful, he learned how to stage a home, juggle chores, and schoolwork with a relentless spirit. His father, a structural engineer and his mother a teacher encouraged curiosity and hands-on problem solving.
Malcolm entered Starfleet Academy in 2388 majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Propulsion. Even with the discipline, structured environment of the Academy, he was known for his relentless drive and intense personality. Malcolm graduated and earned his commission and was soon posted to the USS Armstrong as an Engineering Officer.
His boundless energy served him while as he moved up the ranks to the Olympus and Altair, eventually earning his promotion to Lieutenant Commander. With the ranks needing a rapid boost in qualified Officer’s Malcolm accepted the position of Executive Officer aboard the aging USS Edmund Hillary.

In his spare time, Malcolm is a dedicated model ship builder. What started as a study tool in the Academy evolved into a way to channel his energy. He recreates historical ships in detail often working on multiple projects at once. His quarters are often resemble a workshop, with miniature vessels in various forms of completion.
