Summary
Gik is a Saurian who was born on an Isolated Colony called Maranus, located in a star system on the borders of Federation and Ferengi space, where they had a lot of trading and dealings with the Ferengi. When he reached of age, he applied to join Starfleet Academy, spent his years studying Operations and Engineering and spent a most of his time on board a Starfleet ship until he was recently promoted and assigned to the USS Pioneer as an Operations Officer. After the events of the Third Mission on the Pioneer, Gik changed departments from Operations to Tactical.
History
Gik’s exciting history don’t begin until his adventures on board the USS Pioneer. But to briefly sum up before; Gik had graduated from the Academy in the year 2398, from there he was assigned to a Nebula-Class vessel as an Operations Officer. After two years on board the ship, he had chosen to take a new assignment on board the Pioneer that came with a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade.
The new assignment on board the Pioneer was no different from his previous, but he was a Saurian who wanted to learn about many different vessels in his career and when he saw an opportunity to study an Intrepid-Class vessel, he was not going to let it pass up. Little did he know, was that his career was about to become quite adventurous.
For a while on board the Pioneer, Gik had kept to himself and worked alongside the engineering crew in Main Engineering. He got to learn much of the ship, inside and out, over his year on board. Now, Gik did not partake in any away missions on the previous, crazy adventures that the crew had undertaken, but the mission on board the civilian liner Christie was something he could not pass up being that there was a mystery to solve. Although, Gik would admit that he was more curious about the failure to the warp bubble than to the murder that happened on board the Christie. Unfortunately, while he was eager to learn and solve the issue with the warp engines, he did end up assisting in the attempt to solve the mystery on board the Christie.
Although they did not figure out who the murderer was, they did learn quite a lot about the ship and its cargo. While the briefing seemed to be coming to an end on board the civilian liner with its captain, the warp engines failed, again. Worse off, the ship had dropped out of warp in the rings of a gas giant and not far off was a Romulan warship. Without the Pioneer to assist them in the confrontation with the Romulan warship, Gik took charge while Kaz took the helm and Gik was forced to take control of the situation entirely.
While Gik communicated with the Romulan Commander and agreed to hand over the synthetic crew to them, Gik had formulated a plan in his head. The Christie‘s shields were up to avoid damage from the smaller rocks of the rings while they passed through to rendezvous with the warship. In that process, Gik had asked Amarilla to instead load the torpedoes, to have them prepared to be ejected with canisters of deuterium. Then Gik told Kaz to have the ship pass by an asteroid so that their deployment of ‘mines’ would be discreetly hidden.
Once they were placed, and that the ship was in position, Gik had a brief conversation with the Romulan Commander, only to terminate the channel and order Kaz to bring them about. The Christie would pass over the mines and as soon as the warship was on top of them, Gik detonated the torpedeos, in turn, turning the deuterium tanks into high yield explosives of their own. The explosion resulted in loss in shields and hull damage to the warship. But Gik was not yet finished with the plan.
Now, Pioneer had indeed dropped out of warp to assist, Gik ordered the use of the tractor beam on an asteroid and ordered Kaz to change course before the tractor beam was disengaged. The result was to pull the asteroid into the path of the warship and while the warship did try to avoid it, their starboard nacelle was struck and taken out by the massive rock. Unfortunately, as close as they were to successfully fended off the Romulans, two more Romulan warships appeared.
The overall battle resulted in a warship being disabled by the Pioneer while the Christie took yet another asteroid and hurled it right at the second warship, which had nearly wiped out its shields. Strangely enough, a Klingon Bird of Prey was forced to decloak when it was struck by the first asteroids used as a weapon, and began to assist the Christie. The assistance came with a full barrage of disruptor fire from the BoP to the second warship. With a brief communication and agreement with the Gul on the BoP, who was a member of the Obsidian Order apparently, Gik was presented an opportunity to escape and when the Gul stated that more Romulan warships were on their way, Gik had to choose the safest option. Especially since, Amarilla had stated that they restored warp power.
Unfortunately this is where Gik’s luck runs out. While the Christie had indeed fled from the gas giant and made it to Coppelius, they were still chased down by two of the damaged Romulan warships and Pioneer right behind them. Gik tried to intimidate the Romulan Commander in hopes that they would flee since they were out numbered and the miraculous amount of luck Christie had with the previous engagement, the intimidation failed. The Romulan Commander gave the order to ram his ship into Christie and instead of choosing the most logical course, which was order Kaz to evade, Gik became overconfident and chose to use the tractor beam for the third and final time to grab the second warship and pull it in front of the ramming warship.
It failed. The Christie was severely damaged. Gik and Kaz survived. But out of three hundred passengers and synthetic crew on board, only fifty or so survived. While Gik was awarded a promotion for taking charge and for the brilliant tactician he presented in the rings of the gas giant, Gik did not show it but he felt just as bad as Kaz did when they learned how many was lost. Gik did voice that he took command and thusly took full responsibility of their actions, but he was not sure if that had made it easier for Kaz or not. Nevertheless, Gik had his own real life Kobayashi Maru test and nearly had a catastrophic failure. Lives were lost, yes. But not everyone perished.
Gik sees his promotion has a successful failure and may likely question his decisions in the future. But because of his tactician and strategic skills that he had no idea he had, he had requested a departmental change from Operations to Tactical.
