Raisa Shukri

Early Life

Born on the Federation world Cestus III in 2368, Raisa Shukri was the only child of Akil and Olivia Nabil. Her parents’ work as teachers heavily influenced her early life. They fostered an environment that valued knowledge and passed on their love of learning to young Raisa, teaching her to be curious about the universe around her.

Being an only child meant that Raisa received her parents’ undivided attention and support. Akil and Ophelia showered their daughter with affection, encouraged her curiosity, and taught her to think critically. The family table would be the site of many lively debates, particularly in her teenage years, when the family discussed subjects ranging from science and history to politics and current affairs.

Raisa excelled at school, particularly in history and science, and she participated in extracurricular activities, including science club and cross-country running. The school holidays were often filled with adventure, with the family travelling off-world to visit the many museums and historical sites in Federation space. These trips were curtailed during the Dominion War, and Raisa can clearly remember her family’s fear during that period.

Although she applied to the Trill Science Ministry to placate her parents, Raisa’s heart was already set on attending Starfleet Academy to follow in the footsteps of her uncle Lateef. Having been selected for the Academy’s entrance exam, Raisa did her best to prepare but while she was ready for the academic, the physical and psychological aspects of the exam were a shock and pushed her further than she thought she could go. Raisa was successful in her application and began the four-year bridge officer track with a major in astrophysics.

Personal Life

Raisa married Doctor Ashraf Shukri, a mathematician and lecturer, in 2394. The pair met a year earlier at a symposium hosted by the Daystrom Institute on Betazed. Raisa gave birth to their daughter, Aisha, in 2395.
