Bravo Fleet
Summary
Lauren is often thought of as something akin to a Sergeant Major. She can be fearsome and intimidating and is a strict disciplinarian but is also kind and warm. She leads by inspiring, being as adept as she possibly can be at her work and by being a general bad-ass.
Appearance
Lauren is 5’7″ and weighs in at 135lbs. She is powerful and stocky in her build and has a general look of sternness that could scare small children. But her bright smile can light up her face and lift her looks to an entirely new and welcoming place. Lauren has long dark-blonde hair and grey eyes.
Personality
Lauren is utterly dependable as a senior security NCO. No job will fail due to amateurish things such as ill-preparedness or a lack of forethought. She is meticulous and dedicated.
On the surface she is pleasant but Lauren won’t reveal too much about herself. She prefers some privacy.
Lauren likes to help people but also she prefers to help them help themselves.
Lauren is not shallow, vapid or vain, she’s quite deep and quite serious. She’s not an academic type of person, but she is very practical and can think her way out of a problem. She isn’t relentlessly positive or particularly negative in outlook but she believes in people’s ability to thrive based on their own self-belief and effort.
History
Lauren was born on Farius Prime. Her mother Daniella had a one-night encounter with a visiting prize-fighter and chose not to tell him about his daughter. Daniella raised Lauren until she was six and did a fairly poor job of it, although perhaps it wasn’t all her fault. Daniella suffered from Schizoaffective disorder, brought on by substance abuse in her earlier years. Her grip on reality wasn’t the most solid and Daniella turned to street medications to help alleviate her symptoms as she couldn’t get any official or prescribed help due to being black-balled by the Orion syndicate.
Daniella died from a substance overdose in 2370. Lauren was taken in by the local authorities and paternity test revealed her father was Joseph Taylor, the fighter whose DNA was in the system due to some misdemeanors after a fight on Farius Prime a few years before. Joseph was contacted and surprisingly came immediately to collect his daughter. Lauren went on the road with her father, being educated by a tutor and trained by her father in Mixed Martial Arts. Lauren was keen to learn anything, her schooling before-hand being sporadic. Now people were paying her attention and giving her encouragement and the young Lauren took every opportunity, often being worn out by her days’ studying long before her father was home from training, or fighting.
Lauren herself entered competition fighting at the age of eleven and did well, starting in Judo, she progressed to inter-planetary MMA just before her twenties. Lauren was to quit competition fighting though in 2389 when her father was killed during a bout.
After collecting herself mentally and squaring her father’s affairs Lauren started looking for a new career. Private Security came up initially and was reasonable if not hugely fulfilling. It was during her brief time as a bodyguard the idea of Starfleet first became seriously considered in her mind as she had been told all about it by a colleague who was jaded and had been dishonorably discharged for poor conduct. But Lauren was intrigued and judged herself better disciplined. She was right. Lauren applied for enlistment in late 2389. She passed out of basic training in 2390 and gained glowing reports from superiors almost immediately due to her skill, insight, dedication and efficacy.
Lauren has moved through the ranks steadily, arriving at Chief Petty Officer in 2400. She commands immediate respect from most people and some fear from her subordinates being a crack-shot, an emminent fighter, a good organiser and leader and a disciplinarian.
