  • Promoted to Captain

    • I am certain there is no one in Bravo Fleet who hasn’t come across McGig and has enjoyed interacting with him on our discord channels. McGig is without a doubt one of our most active contributors to a range of discussions and is involved in developing our club further with his cheerful, active and positive attitude. He was promoted back in February of this year to the rank of commander, shortly after I became TF17CO and since then he has taken on board everything that I have asked of him. McGig is one of our most senior TFXOs and over the past eight months he has developed his skills to become an effective member of our task force senior staff. McGig has stepped up his efforts to an entirely new level where he has worked hard to share the burden of leading and managing our Task Force with me. So it is with no surprise that it is time we recognise his amazing contributions and effort. For these reasons, and so many more, prove that he has rightly deserved this. First off, he has been recognised and awarded multiple times since February. In May he was the recipient of the Jonathan Archer Order of Merit for his extraordinary involvement not just with TF17 but with the Lore Office too. Most recently in August, he has shown his commitment to our community by mentoring one of our new members to the rank of LTCMDR, earning him the Expeditionary Award. Alongside these two prestigious awards, McGig has won 4 Action Medals with Galaxy Cluster, 1 Action Medal with Star Cluster and 3 Action Medals with Planet Clusters. He continues to participate in a majority of our competitions as well. Complimenting these awards are the numerous ribbons: 13 Strategic Ribbons, 9 combat action ribbons, 18 duty ribbons and a whopping 395 Service Ribbons! The last two most certainly mean that he has written around 60,000 words for Bravo Fleet during his tenure as a commander. If we were to compare his word count with other authors, he would rival the likes of C.S. Lewis with the first few books in the Chronicles of Narnia series or even H.G. Wells’ epic story of War of the Worlds. As my right hand man, assisting with leadership in Task Force 17 he was involved in developing our recent Task Force Wide Plot, Operation: Delta Expedition. Re-exploring the Delta Quadrant with beloved races from Star Trek: Voyager as well as new aliens has been a joy to do with him. His creative fiction writing is one that has kept many of us engaged and excited in reading the adventures of not just the crew of the USS Atlantis but also those scallywags on the SS Vondem Rose. These two fictions are stark contrasts from one another and McGig never fails to create original work that develops not only the characters he has created but has them involved in our fleet and task force storylines, from the Archanis Campaign, to Operation: Delta Expedition and most recently The Echoes of the Tkon. Without a doubt McGig has become one of the finest players in Bravo Fleet and one of the greatest Task Force Executive Officers that I have had the privilege of working with. His approach to everything is refreshing. I cannot wait to see what else he does and know that him becoming a captain is a great next chapter for him to undertake further adventures as an active participant of Bravo Fleet. So without further delay, ladies and gentlemen of Bravo Fleet, it is my honour to congratulate McGig, on his promotion to captain. It is certainly well deserved!

  • Promoted to Commander

    • Since becoming TFCO for TF17, McGig has shown me a consistent and supportive approach as I took on this role. He has shared and developed the vision where we want to take the Task Force in supporting its members and developing our contributions to Bravo Fleet. Through a number of discussions, which can sometimes be difficult as we are in different time zones, he has helped me developed an aspirational plan for TF17 which we hope will continue to add to the fun we started back in January.

Not only has he contributed thoroughly to the leadership of Task Force 17, through his own actions McGig has shown consistent activity since his promotion to Lieutenant Commander back in September 2020. He has been fully involved in 12 competitions, placing either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a majority of them with 10 awards showing this. For his support with other members he was awarded the Silver Palm back in October 2020. Since then he has not stopped displaying what makes Bravo Fleet members the best as he has set standards on what makes great writing fun to read. Others have shared how much they have enjoyed reading his writing. Alongside the a number of characters he has and his activity on games such as the USS Excalibur (our only 23rd century era game), he has written a great piece of fiction writing for the USS Atlantis. Set in the Delta Quadrant, the Atlantis has made second contact with the Krenim, defeated the Hirogen twice and observed a civilization start their own space exploration program. All of which have been compelling and enjoyable to read. His characters are realistic and are every Star Trek’s fans dream characters (I’ve certainly enjoyed getting to know them). With all of his fiction writing, including others he has been involved with, he has written almost over 10,000 words and has earned an impressive 48 duty ribbons with the games he has been a member of. I cannot also forget his activity in developing our Wiki too. I know speaking with our Loremaster how much his involvement in redesigning and creating many of the templates, now used by our members, has been useful. Finally his activity on the BF Discord has not been missed by anyone. Reaching Level 23, he has shown a willingness to participate in a range of discussions and his input/thoughts have been enjoyed by many. I have appreciated his input, not just with TF17 but also on the Excalibur as we develop our storylines.

Without a doubt, I certainly thinks he deserves his promotion to Commander.
