She knew why she was omitted from the away mission, but she felt that it was necessary she was on it. She got up from the station she was at (the left seat from the CO) and followed her to the Briefing room.
“Commander Tris,” she said in her soft voice. “Commander,” she said a bit more firmly.
“Yes, Counselor?” Meila replied.
“I believe you are making a mistake. It would be better to keep Aiyana on the ship and take me instead. I have flight training as well as I am a telepath. I can understand basic thoughts and basic speech patterns. Further, I have been working with Minara since the Vaadwaur situation and am a great shot.” Kaslad pleaded her case.
“While I have no doubt in your competencies Lieutenant, I feel your abilities will be better served here with the crew. And if we are dealing with Shady Figures, I would rather you be on the ground with Idris than dealing with the whatever it is we are facing. I appreciate your candor.” Meila replied.
“But,” Kas stopped herself.
“But, what Lieutenant?” Meila asked.
“This is an opportunity. I feel like Aiyana keeps getting these First Contact situations, where as me as a Senior Counselor should be there too. I have the diplomatic training and it is being wasted.” Kas said.
Wow, was she really ignoring Kaslad that much because of her personal feelings of Counselors? Her feelings that she would have her mind read at a moments notice. Is it normal to have a distrust of Telepaths? “Good Point Lieutenant, Suit up.”
“Yes Ma’am!” Kas said all excitedly.
