Task Force 86 Report #1

December 2, 2025

Task Force Updates

Well, the Eight-Six certainly does not disappoint when it comes to news. Since the last update, we have had another change in leadership. Fleet Captain Calen Varro handed me the keys to Starbase 86 before warping away, entrusting the care of the Crimson Trident to me. We’ve also welcomed a new Executive Officer, Commander Aelin Maori, who comes to us from Task Force 47, and Fleet Captain James MacLeod returned home to us to take on the CO position for Task Group 25.

Fiction Updates

  •       USS Andromeda – The USS Andromeda and its support ship, the RRW Toma, head into the unknown on an exploratory mission for the Federation. Upon arriving in a populated star system, they discover that they’re in the Tyrena System. They establish first contact with one of the populated planets, the Hespar, who are eager to greet the visitors and ensure that they deal first with them and not the other two species in the system.
  •       Canterbury Long-Range Explorer Division – The USS Canterbury is joined by the IKS Korinar, sparking tensions among the crews as the division receives orders to head to the Shackleton Expanse.
  •       USS Culver City – In the aftermath of the Blythe’s catastrophic downing, Lieutenant Commander Varyn K’lev and the USS Culver City take on the dual burdens of rescue and retribution. As Captain Tyler coordinates relief efforts planetside, operating out of a runabout after the Blythe is declared beyond field repair, K’lev races to intercept a Ferengi shuttle armed with the same illegal Breen dampening technology responsible for the attack.
  •       da Vinci Scout Division – Both the crews of the USS da Vinci & USS Grus have been issued with devices to monitor neural activity and potentially protect against the planet Harha’kuv’s supposed powerful psionic field, a planet which they are both currently searching for.  Yet despite these precautions, unknown forces have attempted to manipulate the minds of the da Vinci’s crew through Trazan, a Betazed onboard.  Doctor Sunny, the CMO, is now working on stopping it.  Meanwhile, the Grus has apparently stumbled across a planet inhabited by people speaking only Portuguese, which the Universal Translator seems unable to convert to English.  They look human, but how could they have ended up in the far reaches of the Shackleton Expanse, so many light-years from Earth?
  •       USS Falcon – The USS Falcon made it to the Palrilles system. After scanning the system’s planets, the crew discovered that Palrilles IV, which sits just inside the system’s habitable zone, contained a large and complex network of seemingly empty subterranean tunnels and caverns. An away team was sent to study the tunnels, where, after a day of mapping and cataloging, they discovered an inhabitant.
  •       USS Liris – When the USS Liris conceals itself beneath a layer of magnetic, irradiated moon dust to spy on a True Way-controlled world, Captain Sh’ill and his small crew devise a daring infiltration plan: lure a Cardassian shuttle to their location, incapacitate its crew, assume their identities through reversible genetic alteration, and penetrate the enemy base on foot. Lieutenant Erti Jatia and Lieutenant Delvok carry out the risky operation, navigating radiation hazards, unexpected civilian entanglements, and the ever-present danger of Cardassian biometrics, eventually securing an uneasy alliance with a local geologist and slipping into the settlement just as notorious war criminal Gul Krivek arrives. After their tense return and debrief aboard the USS Yucatan, Sh’ill’s leadership earns him a center seat, on the condition that he can bring along the tight-knit crew who made the impossible possible.
  •       USS Sovereign – The USS Sovereign has arrived in orbit of the planet K’Shar, only to rapidly deploy the away team in a shuttle to try and gather as many clues about the ruined city before the storm arrives. While one half of the team ventures outside the city, the other half enters the temple. Elidia and Riov, who entered the temple, discovered glyphs that depict some history of a civilization that once existed on this world. They also discovered how the civilization may have perished, since they were visited by the Vezda.
