USS Shanghai

Exploration is the driving force of Starfleet, the core and ever-present principle born into every Starfleet Officer. To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before – that is what we are driven to do.

The USS Shanghai-A was chosen to lead a group of explorers beyond deep space and to a new, unexplored section of the galaxy far rim-ward from Federation lines and the Reayan Transit Corridor. With fresh retrofits and a new crew she set out on a mission of exploration with little more than a small cadre of ships in tow. Deep in the Auriga Perseus section of the galaxy, the Shanghai watched over the early stages of the colony efforts. While exploring this new world something happened, though – a local power known as the Protectorate, a union of numerous species from the region with a reckless use of technologies such as chroniton weaponry and nanotech, set upon the Federation explorers with no obvious provocation. The ensuing battle was quick, but it had lasting implications and would end with stranding the explorers. Now, with only a trickle of reinforcements from the Fleet, Shanghai and her crew has a clear path laid out before it: protect the fledgling Golovin Colony, explore the region, repair the damage dealt to the region, and try to find common ground with the peoples they find there.

The USS Shanghai is an exploration focused sim, set just beyond the known galaxy. The sim hopes to foster an environment where players can help build our little section of the world, from helping design alien worlds and phenomena, to the civilizations and technologies they’ve discovered, and the exploration of characters within that setting. The Shanghai was founded in 2009 and has a dedicated crew with a long history. We are always looking for new members, so if you find yourself interested in the simm, send us a message or application!

Captain Sun Mei Xiang
Commanding Officer

Sun Mei Xiang is a historian, a martial artist, a former marine, a fighter pilot, and proudly serves as the Commanding Officer of the USS Shanghai-A. Starting her career as a Marine Fighter Pilot, she is not a traditional Starfleet Captain - and had to learn command in a much more round about way than many officers. This gave her a unique, if often less than polished, command style.

Lieutenant Gavin Ross
Chief Medical Officer

Mr. Ross is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer on the USS Shanghai. Doctor Ross is passionate about his medical work. He often completes studies, including reports for Federation Medical Journals. His hobbies include a tall tumbler of bourbon on the rocks, courting Christine Descharmes, and fitness in the ship's gymnasium.

Ross has already had to deal with injuries and finds he has little time to spend outside of sickbay. When he lets things down, he enjoys a good game of golf on the links in the Holodeck and driving old luxury vehicles from Earth's past. Gavin is emotionally closed off until he lets you in for a split second. Shanghai is a fast-paced ship with lots happening. Keeping up with the never-ending temporal distortions as a threat is their main concern.
