Summary

Magara is the prime demolitions expert upon the U.S.S Altai- and member of the Hazard Team there. He is part of the camel-like species of ‘The Akh’. Nicknamed Smokey due to his newfound addiction to cigars, his burnished fur and the matter of explosives he deals with – he is a character which is still yet filled with many mysteries, much like his own mysterious culture.

Covered in a thin layer of brown fur, with a long hanging brown, though soot-blackened beard of knotted hair and large bushy brown eyebows that extend somewhat off of his dromedarianesque and lightly burnmarked face – this member of the Akhan species often has a cigar or pipe hanging from his long mouth. He wears three pieces of cloth which wrap around his long, extending forward neck, sometimes reaching up and forming a small turban, which conceals his long mane – otherwise it is simply wrapped across, the cloth strands going down to hang off his mid-neck and shoulders – and are marked with a series of icons. On his back, where a great hump is – is laid a skin of an animal from his world – evidently there to cover the hump. He wears his starfleet uniform underneath these cultural symbols with great pride, kept in perfect order and well cleaned – outside of stray hairs and tobacco ash which may have fallen upon it.

Born upon the central world of the Akh System, Akh’Ga or simply Akh Prime. His birth, like all Sons, Daughters and Neuters of the Children of the Three were in a set of triplets, he- his sister and his other were brought into this world by a tribe of Nightstriders, Nomadic Wanderers who provide food for the three great cities of the eternal desert. It was here that he learned to ride, to hunt and survive – protecting his kith and kin from the monsters and creatures of the black sands of the night. The Nightstriders followed the slowly creeping nights – as days on the world lasted for many earth days, and the sun was blistering hot.

At fifteen years of age, his Nightstrider Tribe disbanded – having gained enough prestige to join a City – there are three upon Akh, but they chose the city of Ha – Ha is defined by it’s artistry, whereas Ga is defined by it’s cuisine – and finally Ah is defined by it’s warriors. That does not mean that each does not have all three – no they all practice war, art and survival in measure, but simply focus more deeply on one. In the city of Ha, the yet unnamed Nightstrider learned many crafts, including stonecarving, pottery, painting and music. The arts were not what he yearned for, nor did he care for the luxuries of Ga – he wished to hunt again like he did before, yet his family did not want to give up their newly gained House.

He took a ship across the great sand-sea and arrived in the city of Ah. Here he learnt new crafts, that he adored – warfare, marksmanship and what he excelled in most – explosives. Upon returning home to Ha with his family, he joined a guild of the art of destruction, following the Male aspect of the Great Three-Faced God. Destruction consumed so much of his life he almost lost balance. His family could tell- and demanded he return to the fold and understand the balance of the Three.

He understood, and functioned as steward for a time – organizing, serving. He then functioned as a farmer for another few years. Once balance was returned, he went back to the Guild of Destruction – and eventually became the Guildmaster over the course of around 5 years, and in another few more he was part of the Council of Destruction for the Grand City of Ha. He participated in several Wars of Choice – the great events which determined the Chosen Leader of the Empire of Akh – being successful in every category, from cooking, to artistry, to combat. Ha becoming the Chosen City for several years in a row, partly because of his efforts as Councilman. But his term was not forever, and after 9 years serving as councilman he stepped down.

This was when Starfleet arrived.

The Federation’s first contact with The Akh was…Not pleasant. The Akh had only a single interaction with aliens in the past, and that was when aliens had attempted to stake claim to the world – the Akh decimated them. But this interaction centuries ago introduced the Akh to spaceflight, and with that field of science now understood – they had begun exploration of their own, crafting ships and navies and so forth.

When the Federation arrived at Akh Prime – they were astonished that any species could even exist on such an inhospitable planet. Upon attempting to contact, they received nothing back- as the Akh had not developed any form of subspace communication, and instead were using radio transmission – which was a curious lack of technology given that they were spacefaring. As such, the Federation expedition made landfall whilst wearing heat-resistant hazard suits, but immediately the Akh descended upon them like a swarm, slaughtering several of the expedition with high-power rifles. It was only from the interrogated Captain did they learn of who Starfleet was, and what their mission was. That these aliens were here on a mission of peace, unlike the creatures before.

This was their first true contact with Aliens – and Aliens that did not wish to kill them. They showered the Captain and the remainder of his crew with gifts, animals and knowledge of the local systems that they had discovered. The families of the dead were compensated extremely well – and the dead were given a traditional state funeral – before their ashes were returned to their families. The Chosen of each City indeed met with the Captain, viewing him as the arbiter of the entirety of the Federation.

As former councilman of the Guild of Destruction, and as a member of the warherd that attacked the Starfleet expedition, he joined in great honour with the Captain and the three Chosen, all in the one place – at the Central Oasis, a structure in the middle of the geographic triangle that was the three cities. He listened intently to the concept of Starfleet, and spoke up during the feast

“Shall we replace them?” he asked – the Chosen Ones looking at one another for a moment, each of them smiling towards him. As such, three Akh were chosen from among the Warherd, each of them from one of the three cities – in order to attend Starfleet Academy as reparations and as diplomatic ties to the Federation. The Empire of Akh would eventually accept Federation rule and join, by 2385.

Magara’s role was obvious from the beginning, he was already a master of demolitions, and it only took him a few months to undergo that education – but he wanted more education – learning the ways of humanity, their ethos and so forth, as well as offering the cultural exchange – all up he spent about 5 years there. Once he was educated, he requested a position as a demolitions specialist for a hazard team.
