Cardassian Movement?
The Federation News Service has recently been able to get an interview with the Fourth Fleet Commanding Officer, Admiral Teylas Ramar, and his Fleet Executive Officer, Vice Admiral Barak Aubrey regarding the recent troop and ship allocations within the Cardassian Union. In a previous news broadcast we reported that the Cardassians seemed to be redistributing and relocating their Orders into different areas which were highly suspect. The interview itself was behind closed doors and the exact transcript is considered classified. However the Chiefs of Starfleet Operations and Starfleet Intelligence at Starfleet Command have given the FNS permission to summarize the findings of the interview.
According to the admirals the relationship between the Cardassians and the Federation is as strong as ever. However several vessels of the Fourth Fleet which are tasked with monitoring Cardassian military activity since the Cardassians requested the Federation aid's departure in 2382 to attempt to self sustain. Since then the Cardassians have had an explosion of production in their economy and have recovered from the war with the Dominion and made many more improvements along the way. Their military has apparently been rebuilt with lots of improvements, and now the Cardassians have been able to fully reform their Orders. They are still a relatively resource poor empire, but with recent discoveries of large mineral deposits on several Cardassian worlds things have begun to look up for them.
Although Starfleet Intelligence's concentration was definitely shook up when, according to the admirals, the Cardassian Union's Fifth, Sixth and Eight Orders were all reassigned along the Cardassian-Breen boarder. It is a well known fact that the Cardassians still hold a lot of resentment towards the Breen for their entrance into the Dominion during the war, and largely blame them for the loss of the war and the huge loss of Cardassian life at the hands of the Jem'Hadar during the final hours of the war. Starfleet Intelligence is unsure, but believes that these recent ship movements along the Cardassian front are to reinforce their boarder with the Breen Confederacy; the exact motives at this time are unknown.
The Federation News Service will keep you updated on the situation. In the mean time Starfleet has ordered all its outposts and starships along the boarder to maintain a heightened level of caution in anticipation of the possible outbreak of conflict. The Fourth Fleet's Task Force 72, and portions of Task Force 9, has been primarily tasked with making sure that Federation worlds will remain safe if anything was to happen.
